Renewing U.K. Passport
Hey! Has anyone renewed a U.K. Passport from within Canada, recently? I was wondering what the wait time is just now. I can't decide whether to do the day Trip to the renewal office, next time we're home, or use the postal system here! Thanks.

Re: Renewing U.K. Passport
I wouldn't use "the postal system", full stop. There are too many things get delayed, or the tracking fails at the hand-off to the Royal Mail and you're left wondering ......
If you need to send your passport application, spring for a courier, such as FedEx or UPS, your application will get there quicker and you have the comfort of end to end tracking. Anyhow, .... the processing is taking around one week, then add shipping time to and from, so, using a courier each way should be less than two weeks. |
Re: Renewing U.K. Passport
Great advice! Thank you! I remember a couple of years ago the wait time was months and months. This is encouraging!

Re: Renewing U.K. Passport
In May we sent two applications off for renewal of expired passports. Got them back a day shy of two weeks. Can't complain at that!

Re: Renewing U.K. Passport
I didn't think that there were any UK passport offices left in Canada. The last time I renewed mine I had to send it to, UK Passport Services for The Americas and Caribbean in Washington DC. Took about 3 weeks.

There are no international passport offices anywhere - all British passports applications are processed in the UK.

Think she means renewing when she's back home in England, not Canada...

Re: Renewing U.K. Passport
Do not get your passport posted please. My friend applied for a new passport after he lost his/or it was expired for about 5 years. (He holds a Irish passport too).
They sent it to his London address though the letterbox! Not even recorded! Luckily he received it. But can you imagine if someone stole it? British passports are like gold dust these days! |

Re: Renewing U.K. Passport
Of course the OP should make sure they follow the process and book a time slot with the passport office well ahead of time and then be prepared to leave their application there and return in a few hours to collect. https://www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently

Re: Renewing U.K. Passport
It took 9 days applying from Canada to receiving both my daughters' new UK PPs last December. The passport office courier them back. You don't choose this option. It's mandatory.

Re: Renewing U.K. Passport
Thank you, for all of the replies. Just to confirm, if anybody was in doubt, I did mean the U.K. Passport office on my next trip to the U.K.
It's actually a renewal for my child. My internet searches are rubbish! Thank you so much to the previous poster who provided the link about making an appointment. I knew I had to do this, as we've done this previously, however, after reading the linked page, I have learned that this is only an option for a child's first passport and not a renewal! Therefore I am relying on the post! |

Way too many people get carried away with the rare one that goes missing. You're just as likely (if not more) to lose it (or be mugged for it) on your way home from collecting it. Or even be burgled. Or have a fire. Or... |
