relocation realter/person help pls

Hi there
With all our worldly belongings all packed up in a warehouse waiting to be shipped we need to find accommodation in toronto. Does anyone know of anyone to help people moving finding rental properties. Think people are put off because we live in the uk still. We are mostly looking around thornhill and the west part of richmond hill. Any help/advice great as I am just not getting anywhere finding us a home. Thanks

I live in the west part of Richmond Hill (Mill Pond area). Ask away.

Of course you've looked at realtor.ca, viewit.com, craigslist and kijiji?

thanks for your quick replay. I've tried most of those websites yes, but so far have had little reply. I guess some places have already gone by the time I enquire, and a couple have not bothered replying back when I say I am from the uk and haven't got a job yet. Can't get a job until I'm there, can't get a home until I get a job. We are a decent family who want to make a new life and just desperately need a home for all our belongings so we can start the process.

Can you afford to offer several months rent in advance?

yes we have savings which we expect to use - although one place suggested 12 months deposit which felt a bit much.

I agree 12 months sounds a bit much. :).

None of my business of course, but what sort of work will you be seeking?

Hmm. I expect all three are regulated professions here. Have you looked into that?

One place local you might want to talk to is l'Arche http://www.larchedaybreak.com/

You're arriving in May?

Hello
We've been here since last November and we found a place to rent via a broker. He's a great guy, he went out of his way to help us, even driving my husband round on a tour of our preferred area. We're still in touch with him now regarding buying a property further down the line. I'm sure he'd be happy to help if you gave him a call. These are his details

Right At Home Realty Inc., Brokerage
B: 416-391-3232 C: 416-819-3200
W: www.firsttorontohome.com

He's been brilliant to us - if he wants to know how you got his details then please say its from Glenn and Jo in Oakville.

Cheers

Jo

We booked one month initially via a property on www.vrbo.com albeit in Vancouver - our intention was to either find a longer term rental or buy a property. There is also http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk which has less property in Canada but might also be worth a look.

You pay a bit more but at least you can sound out the areas where you want to live rather than rely on others or hope the area is a good one. One advantage is the property is fully furnished meaning that you don't have to rush out and buy goods urgently so that you can be comfortable.

thanks for the realor contact - I will email him.
And yes my husband knows his profession is being regulated (although I don't think mine is) and cheers for contact on short term rental although all our stuff will arrive soon and incur a $700 for first month storage so we really need to find a proper home. Thanks everyone.

The $700 sounds high - we negotiated that down with our shipping company. I would also not worry too much about that as finding the right location is very important!

Good luck with the search!
