Relocating to Toronto

Hi!

I February I will be moving to Toronto from Australia for 2 years. I've have a full-time job in Mississauga. I am not sure whether I should live in Mississauga or closer to Toronto? I am thinking that it will be easier to meet people (as I don't know anyone in Canada) in Mississauga as it may be more of a community and the people I will be working with may live there. On the other hand I love to party and socialise (I'm 22 years old and single), and I'm sure Toronto has a much better nightlife and things to do during the day than Mississauga.

Any ideas and contributions would be greatly appreciated..,

Nick.

Mississauga housing is more affordable then Toronto but you are right it is not a 24hr city in the same way that TO is ....getting to TO from Mississauga isn't too bad, there is a subway connection at Kipling station and also GO train till quite late ....really depends what your main priorities are , if its partying then TO is probably best

Don't live in Mississauga, it's just a suburb. Live downtown in Toronto and commute out. Do you know where in Mississauga you'll be working?

Yeah, I think the office is near Clarkson and the Sheriden Centre.

Live near Union Station in Toronto then. Lots of apartment buildings, bars and clubs and there's a station at Clarkson. Worst case would be train to Clarkson and then a bus.

You'll likely want to find the tranzac club. That is if beer and cricket and rugby are of any interest.

Bloor, not Queen.

Very nice excursion, thanks. England suits us better than here.

How was your trip home?

I wish I'd known about this place 2 weeks ago! I went everywhere trying to find a pub showing the Wales-Canada game.

I ended up watching the text update on the BBC website in an Apple store

I expect they could have pointed you in the right direction:

This place has lots of rugby on the TV:

at least it did, we stopped going there some months ago.

The "home" bit was just a three day visit to rellies in Newcastle... tacked on to the end of a business trip to Germanyland. Talking of Germany, Biermarkt 6 pm Sat still looks OK at the moment. I'll be wearing a swastika.

I've just relocated from Oakville. I live in Little Italy - College and Ossington to be roughly exact.

I'd rather cut my arm off with a rusty spoon than live in Mississauga. I can't drive around there for more than a minute without getting lost, and its my very worst idea of suburban hell. Miles of strip malls and suburban housing and not a lot else to speak of. Give me Toronto any day...

Where are you in Aus ? Did the opposite to you 5 months ago Toronto to Sydney. When in Toronto lived Bloor/Yonge, nice area, centrally located for bars, restaurants, shops, subway etc so no real need for a car you can get down to the GO trains on the Yonge subway line. Wouldn't live in Mississauga it looks very boring. Would suggest anywhere up Yonge St - Yonge/ St Clair, Yonge/Eg, Yonge/Lawrence etc

It's a long commute to Clarkson if you put a subway between you and Union station. Have a look at the St. Lawrence Market area; it's walkable to Union.
