Relocating to NS, what do I need to think about?

We will be moving provinces next year and so we have a lot to think about.

The search is on for housing, day care etc, for once work isn't an issue, but I am sure there is plenty else to keep us occupied.

Has anybody any suggestions on what needs doing, so far I have come up with the following,

Re register cars ----- how, where and is it simple?

Close down Alberta Health -------- open up a NS equivalent.

Redirect mail --------- is this easy to do?

Enroll with new Doctor, Dentist etc.

This is the very top of what I expect to be a long list, I would be grateful for any further suggestions

I know of someone who managed it in NS with the help of a pharmacist in Shoppers DM.

Sadly down here there are 100s of people needing doctors. You can't even go on a waiting list! If there is anything wrong with us we have to go to Emergency at the hospital and wait about 10 hours!!

NS health card = http://gov.ns.ca/health/msi/
NS driving license = http://gov.ns.ca/snsmr/access/

Doctor well I think that will depend where you are going, I know where I am hard to find a doctor however NP's are becoming more prominent and they are taking patients on

Not even a Province list?

We moved here from Quebec. My wife and kids went on what was called an "Orphans List" and it took a year. Nothing to do with being orphans, just what they called it. They were then assigned to a doc.

I had to wait for my PR. When that came through, the same doc accepted me instantly. No waiting for me:)

My mother in law moved here recently. The doc said they weren't taking new patients, but we made her an appointment for when her NB Medicare would have come through. In advance of that, I dropped in and asked for a new patient form - to save time on completion at the actual appointment.

The receptionist used the phrase getting in under the radar while commenting they were still not taking new patients but they still accepted her.

A friend who moved here about 3 weeks before we did went all the way to Halifax (300kms) to be seen a couple of weeks ago. It's a running joke that it's better to drive 100kms to Shelburne to emergency than go to Yarmouth emergency as the waiting time is shorter!!!! I thought it was a joke at first but apparently not! I have to get used to this otherwise it will worry me and I shall then feel unsettled and want to move back to civilisation! :o
