Reliable international movers.

Google turns up plenty of companies offering you the world, but I find personal experiences are more reliable as to who is reputable and not a rip off merchant.

For those of you that made the leap...did you use a moving company or arrange transport for your goods yourself? If you used a company what kind of price did you pay?

We're not going to be taking a lot, just books, CDs, Photos, Clothes and some DVDs. So we're probably talking about 5 or 6 boxes at the most.

Any help of advice would be gratefully accepted.

We are using Bishops Move in Edinburgh, but we are moving a wee bit more than you although no furniture and big stuff but more than 6 boxes. They are really good, approachable and friendly. Good pricing as well for deep sea removal. If you need a contact there, happy to give his details.
cheers

We are currently waiting for a final quote on approx 4 cbm and up to now the prices have been better than we expected and this is from door to door. They are based in Southampton but have been quick to answer any email queries I have had:thumbsup:

I wouldn't be giving my worldly possessions to Pickfords at the moment, they're in a spot of financial bother - see this Times article.

We used Bishop's Move and were happy with them, although a bit slow off the mark (Glasgow office) to deal with the insurance claim.

We head tomorrow to customs to clear our container that was packed by Doree Bonner at the end of February in Glasgow. The experience so far with them through the quote and then the actual packing has been very good.

As we were in Canada already the quote was all done through e-mail correspondance and it worked well. The packing was quick and efficient too, we had quite a small amount that needed done and they were finished in about 3 hours.

The Canadian side has also been good so far, as i've had a few calls from the agent (Tippet Richardson) letting me know progress of the container.

I suppose until next week when we actually recieve it and see how it arrives I can't fully reccomend, but right now I'm not feeling apprehensive.

Be warned that their service seems to vary depending on location; I wasn't so impressed with them when they moved my stuff. On the other hand, most of it got here OK with no hassles, just late and without a single response to any email I sent them... so it could have been a lot worse.

We are currently half way through the move. We have been packed and are currently in storage awaiting house selling and buying.

We used Fox's of Stourbridge and they have been excellent.

If you only have six boxes, try posting them or even air cargo. Worth looking in to.

We used foxes from Louth and have know complaints, and they were the cheapest quote too.

I was thinking sending as cargo might be an idea....I suppose I should wait until we've decided exactly what we're taking, it might be more than I think right now :p

Anglo Pacific were seemingly great on the UK side, and cheap. But the 3rd party they crontacted to out here, Cockburns, were terrible, late and rude. We opened our boxes from the part load to find all our most expensive clothes stolen (suits, jackets, OH's dresses etc.). Dunno if this happened on the UK side or here. We are currently chasing up insurance.
