registering with no initial permanent address on arrival
How do you get medical insurance for the first 3 months or the medical service plan itself as a new permanent resident if you dont have a permanent address when you get there? I had planned to move about at first to find the right area of BC to settle (im self employed and work from home, i dont need a specific area to stay) but medical insurance and even banking want a permanent address to register with them?
Even if i only travel about for the first month which seems a perfectly acceptable thing to do it means i cant sort out any of these important things until im settled somewhere?
Is there a way around this (if i had friends or family there i could give their address i guess but i dont)
did anyone else have this issue as a new arrival?

You won't get medical cover for the first 3 months on arrival in BC anyway - so you may want to obtain cover privately via a 3rd party - such as immigrants (one way) insurance - to carry you over until you qualify for it.

yeah i know that. I've read the wiki's. I've said i can't apply for it because you need a permanent address in B.C to do either of those things. i wont have one because im moving from place to place at first....
maybe if i rented a P.O Box?.....

PO Box is OK for receiving mail, which is about it.
For drivers license, insurance, bank accounts, MSP, SIN, you will need a physical address where you are living (or a friends address). As a resident, banks will require a SIN from Canadian residents as banks report to CRA.

UPS Store mailboxes give you a real street address of the store to use and I believe you can even get away with the residential unit-street number format e.g. "99-123 Fake St" instead of the "PO Box #" in the address from what I understand, so that might be an option. Never tried but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
