Refunds

Having sold your home and moved out to Canada what does everyone do about all those refunds that are due back on car insurance, home insurance, gas, electricity, water, TV licence, etc? From experience I know these refunds are slow in arriving and I'll be back in Canada soon after completion on my flat.

Keep your UK current account open and get the direct debits paid/post the cheques back into them. If you are with a major High Street bank it is not a problem to keep your account open - and there are no charges;-)

If you cannot get stuff sent directly to your new address, try getting a friend or postal forwarding service to send your mail on to Canada. It might seem a hassle to have to send it back to the bank but it depends how much money you're talking about I guess.

I have lived abroad and maintained banking in the UK without any problems.
