Recording TV
 

Hey everyone,

Unusual request here... my sister (back home in England) really wants me to bring a recording of an NHL game from Canadian TV when I go home later this month... so I want to go with the Leafs-Canadiens game this weekend. However, I then thought, if I record the game on tape it probably won't play in the British machine... is that right?? If so, is there any way around that???

Canada has a different video format to us. We use PAL and they use NTSC. Whether you can play it depends on your video and television. For example, I have a video that plays NTSC and PAL. So with that I can play NTSC videos, though mine normally come out black and white on my PAL TV.

Many modern TVs can play both PAL and NTSC.

If you want to avoid risks, and as its just one video, the simplest solution is to pay to get it converted to PAL either in Canada or in the UK.

Get her to check her VCR - mine is a jVC and plays both PAL and NTSC

Get someone with a "Windows Media Center" PC to record it then copy the file to a CD and she can watch it on a PC.

If she just wants to see an ice hockey game on TV, she can tape one herself in the UK. Ice hockey is shown in the middle of the night on channel 5 in the UK - just checked their website and there's a game on Tuesday at 2:40am, Sabres v Flyers. The teams aren't Canadian, but it's all NHL.
