Re: recession in Canada
impossible to answer each province is like a seperate( large country)
absolutly no signs whatosoever of any kind of credit crunch or donwturn where I am in rural Nova scotia but then its like living in somehwere totally cut off from the outside world ...bliss! |
Re: recession in Canada
I dont thing anywhere is totally immune, there was 120000 jobs lost across the country in january.
Canada is a manufacturing base and also has lots of natural resources - but someones go to buy then for that to be of any use in most provinces house prices are softening, some more than others s |
Re: recession in Canada
Yes, Canada was officially in recession months ago.
But as Chumley said, it will depend on which province you are going to, your area of work, etc, as to how it will affect you. |
Re: recession in Canada
Of course Nova Scotia is not immune to the recession, no matter what some people want to make you believe..Everyone who is trying to tell you otherwise lives on a pink cloud
http://thechronicleherald.ca/Business/1105157.html The reason why RURAL Nova Scotia doesn't feel the downturn yet is because it has been poor all along. People here are used to making end's meat with very little, so a depression won't really shock them too much more. Our rural village of 50 people consists of mainly seniors and un-employed people and the few who have a job with the papermill or Michelin are pretty sure that they are going to lose their jobs in the near future. It is not all bliss. |

Re: recession in Canada
yes, the recession is starting to hit. IMO it's not a good time to be emigrating. We know friends (professionals) whose work has totally dried up in the past few months. House prices are softening but so far, not the way they are in the us or uk yet.

42,000 Jobs could be lost in 2009 http://www.ctvbc.ctv.ca/servlet/an/l...shColumbiaHome I thought at the time that was a ridiculous underestimate and then we get this http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-col...y.html?ref=rss Ouch!! The glory days for UK immigrants to Canada are over for now. Funding the move with property equity is harder; GBP/CAD is a lot lower; jobs aren't easy to come buy anymore - even in the public / health sectors. |

Maybe not :- Billionaire Club Files For Bankruptcy The Yellowstone Club, which includes Bill Gates as a member, can't pay its creditors. http://www.forbes.com/2008/11/12/bli...llowstone.html cheers Jerry |
Re: recession in Canada
Isnt it a case of the bigger they are the harder they fall, so BC,AB and Toronto will be worst hit, Just like in the UK the bigger citys and places that have had it too good for too long. when its good its good, but when its bad its hell:curse:
I read that employment rose recently in New Brunswick:thumbup: Thats where we heading hopefully, so looks good. |
