Recent experiences of Petair

I've tried searching for recent experiences of using Petair to transport a dog to Canada but there are very few entries. Has anyone used them, or got reasons not to please?

Haven't they only been going a month or so?

Just realised that may be confusing - actually referring to a UK based company which arranges transportation for pets instead of the new US airline.

Hi.

I haven't used Petair- I checked out their website when looking to transfer my pet over - not sure why I didn't go with them now.

I came over with Air Transat and paid for Ladyhaye (are right near Gatwick Airport) to ship my pooch on the same flight - although the airline took off Rufus' paperwork at Calgary and he arrived "paperless" with a threat of quarantine - we managed to sort it - as it was luckily 12midnight when we arrived so they were open in the UK. They faxed it pronto and it was there within minutes. (Tips to avoid this would be to photocopy all paperwork before you leave your dog - i.e. ask the pet travel agent for a copy of all the flight documents for your dog - just in case - apparently it happens ALOT!! with Air Transat/cargo).

Id recommend Ladyhaye - they treated Rufus like he was their own (gave him chicken and rice when he had an upset tummy the night before so he would be comfortable on the flight) and when he arrived in Canada he was in tip top shape (hadn't done anything in his crate which I thought was amazing) and he couldn't wait to find the nearest tree. He's a Boxer and 7 so I was extremely worried about him not making it!

Anyway I waffle on - go with your gut instinct, I was happy that they listened to all my worries and took good care of him - Petair may be the same

Hi, I can't really help but we are using Air Pets. Air Pets have been recommended to us by more than one person as (supposedly) one of the best. They are also one of the most expensive but not by much and I believe that you get what you pay for.

They have been great so far but my two cats don't travel for another two weeks so I cannot confirm how good.

Still, worth looking into I guess

I came over on Air Transatt and did it myself for 2 dogs via the cargo arm . :)

Thanks for the info.

We've called a few places and the Petair Sales staff seemed the friendliest / most helpful, but didn't seem to have been used too much by people on BE hence the question.

Keep wondering about doing it ourselves, but most airlines seem to say they won't give us a cargo quote until 2 weeks before (and if it's a really scary cost we won't have time to find an alternative!!).

Re: Recent experiences of Petair

We flew Air Canada into Montreal back in May - we are in PEI but the Halifax flight could only take 1 animal due to the type of aircraft flying that route at the time. The dogs went into the hold with the baggage and it cost £109 each dog. $36 admin fee on arrival and no problems what so ever the dogs were fine.

Each dog and it's crate must weigh less than 36kg or they have to go cargo.

We booked the flights but put a temp hold on payment as Air Canada need max 72hrs to confirm there is space on the flight for the dogs, they called back within hours and we paid for the flights.

There are months they put a stop on animals travelling so check up to date info with them... usually the very hot and cold periods.

We had to check in 3 hrs before the flight as normal but were allowed to keep the dogs with us right up to 45 mins before boarding, which was great for the dogs but we missed the duty free shops coz we had to dash over to the gate.... :(

We flew from Heathrow.

Any more Q's please ask away.

DAVIE_MAC did you book the dogs as excess baggage?

We used Pet Air & they were great. They collected my daughter's cat & our little dog from our house in N Yorks early one morning & delivered them 2 days later to Halifax Airport. They were both clean & well cared for. Cannot think more highly of them. We tried to get them delivered direct to PEI but could not do so because they could not deliver them in a heated hold in winter to Charlottetown & the handler in Halifax tried to claim an extortionate amount for board & lodging. My SIL collected them from Halidfax airport & brought them back for less than $100 including the bridge toll. I would recommend them. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information / recommendation Valerie - really appreciated.

Lucky you, living on PEI - it's a wonderful place.

We made arrangements through Ladyhaye as we were already here, dog followed 3 months later due to having to get a rental sorted which would allow a dog. They did a really good job, we chose the flight we wanted, was expensive though. Probably cheaper if they fly on same flight as you.

Hi we've looked into all of them and cheapest quote we've had by miles is Animal Airlines at £1600 for 2 Siberian Huskies, all the others want £2200 up to £3600, we're looking into doing it ourselves with Air Canada, by all accounts they are really good, ours exceed the checked baggage limit, which is now 32Kg (dog + crate), so they will have to fly cargo, all the information is on their website on what you need to do!
