Recce to PEI

We have just returned from our week long recce to PEI, so in the best traditions of BE here is how it went!

Day 1 - Flew with BMI from Ireland to Heathrow and then with Air Canada, BMI couldn't print our daughters boarding card which meant landside at Heathrow with a very tight timeline, Air Canada were brilliant we were even escorted thru' Security to make the flight, we had one of the new 767's with seat back TV's etc. Landed at Halifax, picked up the Alamo hire car, all painless, drove to Charlottetown to attend a Gala Dinner, arrived a little late and tired, but made sure that we shook lots of hands!

Day 2 - Had a lazy breakfast and a long chat to a contact we had made, moved into the Holiday Inn Express as they seem to be the only hotel with a Family Room! Went for a drive to explore.

Day 3 - Met with the local government in the morning, and a Realtor (Robert Cantwell, Coldwell Banker Parker Realty recommended by Kerlynkeo, thanks Kerry) who was really great. Went to see Kerry and bombarded her with questions.

Day 4 - Visited 5 houses to get a feel for property, have probably decided to build.

Day 5 - Visited Summerside, I went to speak to some potential employers, while the rest of the family annoyed Vee (Veengraham) and her lovely kids and kittens, thanks very much Vee.

Day 6 - Chilled out in the morning, visited Cavandish in the afternoon, which was lovely and empty!

Day 7 - Met with Robert the Realtor and a Builder to chat about potential new build. Opened a bank account with RBC, very painless.

Day 8 - Time to leave, headed for Halifax and Hurricane Noel! Delayed by 24 hrs, booked into Hilton Garden Inn which was very nice.

Day 9 - Looked around Halifax on a lovely sunny but very fresh day. Got to the Airport early, flight left on time but sadly an old 767 no seatback TV's etc, boo!

Day 10 - Home, tired but glad we went.

All in all we loved PEI and a move looks to be very much on the books, just depends on securing a Job and tying up all the loose ends. We should hopefully be there late next year or early 09.

If anybody else is thinking of moving to PEI, as long as you like a quiet lifestyle then this very friendly Island could well suit! Just don't tell everybody. Questions will be gladly answered.

Hi,

Nice to see you got home safe and sound.

The storm gave you an extra day, can't be bad.

Glad to see you have decided to come out to PEI, roll on the summer.

Did you get chance to go to Eliot River?

Take care
Kerry
