Re: Teaching in Canada

Apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place....I'm a novice with this site.

My girlfriend and I have moved to Calgary from the UK. I'm a Police Officer...she is a primary school teacher seeking to continue her career. She has applied to the Alberta Teaching association and forwarded all of the required documents including her permanent residence card to Edmonton. On contacting Edmonton they advised that processing times to issue teaching certificates were running at 20-24 weeks so clearly she is looking for other employment meantime.

There is also a rumour that we have heard that she may have to do additional training potentially for nine months (unpaid) before she will be issued a teaching certificate. However when contacting Edmonton they gave the general answer of "each case is looked at seperatley".

Can anyone give advice re this situation?? Perhaps someone who has been through the process. My girlfriend was a qualified primary school teacher for 3 years in Scotland having completed a years post grad teacher training and her probationary period.

Any advice would be greatly received.
