Re: Railway work
very difficult .......i am an engineer, and hold the institute of railway signal engineer qualifications........the best people to speak to are the sub contractors for the major companies.
i was offered a superviosory post with CN,but it would have required to be stationed anywhere in ontario and only for short terms good luck Paul |
Re: Railway work
It's not easy,
TBH i was a fully qualified Signal Design Engineer in the UK holding all my IRSE licenses i applied for work with CN as an "electrician" because there is no design work with them where i live. When i got to the interview they were happy with everything i had done in the past I.E. i worked for Westinghouse full time for 4 years in the design office with a lot of experiance in testing and various other roles throughout the railway. The trouble is they are very limited to who exactly they can hire from overseas because you are deemed as either an electrician or an engineer in which case even though i was registered as an engineer through IRSE i was not registered through the province of Manitoba and therefore for them to hire me i would need to pay for all the retaking of tests and what not. It's probably well worth doing as engineers in this country can earn a very hefty wage but it does depend on how much you remember your schooling for me it wasn't too bad cause i haven't been out of school for long but i could imaging someone who hasn't been in school for 15 years or something to struggle if they couldn't just approve your "credentials" for a straight switch you really need to have at least a bacholors degree otherwise they may require you to be tested the whole process can cost a lot of money but like i said it depends on what you have. Let me know if you have any q's |
