Question about health insurance for student and family
Hi there!
I am confused as to the length of time my family and I need health care insurance.
I am the student and my husband will be in possession of an Open Work Permit to gain job whilst in Canada.
We will be entering Canada on 5th January 2009, I read that you can join the Ontario Health Plan after 3 months. Is this for Permanent Residents only?
We have PR application in hand also, hopefully be processed within a year.
Should I therefore apply for cover for 3 months or should I take out an annual policy?

It's for any resident - see eligibility here. But is your place of study offering healthcare too - this might cover you from your first day? My OH had to take compulsory health cover from his uni, cheaply enough, and it extended to me and our son.
