There have been studies demonstrating that it is psychologically damaging to force a child to spend time at school repeating work that is much too basic for their abilities.

There are also studies demonstrating that it is psychologically damaging to have a child mix with older children all of the time.

Pick one basically. Whatever you do there will be problems.

Based on your experience of a sample of one in a rural part of one particular province.

That certainly fits with my experience. The school went to great lengths to avoid employing teachers from Quebec, choosing staff from the Belgian Congo, Algeria or Louisiane in preference. A few of them spoke no English which must have been extremely difficult for them here.

Oh, and I don't agree that the Canadian system is any way inferior to any other, the school offered the bac and coaching for the SAT. Two qualifications offering immediate comparison with students from other countries.

True, but I didn't make a sweeping generalisation.

Not wanting to have another thread blighted by arguments - there are more than enough on other threads - but if you re-read my posts, I don't believe I made any sweeping generalisations. I was careful to point out that this was my experience and what I had gleaned from other people's comments.

My daughter is not in French Immersion, she is in Extended French (whatever that means). Perhaps in this rural "hicksville" that you believe I reside in, they find anyone they can, with the resources available to them, to teach French? I know that her main job is Librarian and she may not even be a "proper" teacher??

Oi! My wife is a public school teacher-librarian. Believe me, they are proper teachers. Indeed, usually one of the best. Not I would ever make a sweeping generalization based on a sample of one. Oh no.

My other half worked as a school teacher and librarian for a year. Her French is terrible.

My kid's English teacher is a fully qualified teacher. Her English is terrible. She doesn't like him much.

<Note to Boy: stop correcting the teacher's English in front of the class>

Thank you - that was all I was querying. No-one on here can vouch for the talents of this lady teaching French or any other subject.....not even me. :) Must make an effort to find out now though.

It is a foul day, to be sure. Wazzing down. Still, at least the temperatures are comfortably in the black.
