Sadly it wouldn't surprise me at all, if Canada went totally the other way than the EU. Locking up fully vaccinated Canadians intending to return in quarantine hotels and even higher fines while publishing in the Canadian media that the only threat of Covid 19 to Canada is coming from the outside.

There are still too many in Canadian politics who doubt the effectiveness of the vaccines and impose a "you could, you still could..." policy on others.

I am starting to get cabin fever. I would take off tomorrow on a US road trip, but I don’t want the hassle when I re-enter Canada. Also at the back of my mind is…what if some other virus/variant kicks off, which is more deadly? We may not be able to get back.

At least going by road you wouldn't have to quarantine in a hotel on return.. the not knowing about getting back in would be enough to put me off the idea as well..
You are able to travel soon..

If you have never done the VIA trip, you will enjoy it as it is now.

It is not anywhere close to what we enjoy.

They are operating under covid-19 restrictions.

Sleeping car passengers are confined to their cabins except for being escorted to the Dining Car for breakfast and dinner. or for a requested shower time. Lunch is served in the cabin. Masks must be worn all the time, except in your own cabin, or while eating and drinking in the dining car.

There are no Service Cars, lounges or domes.

The food will be as good as ever. The beds as comfortable as ever. The crew as pleasant and helpful as ever.

Cabin crew will clean and change the night time setting (bunks) of your cabin to daytime (chairs) while you're at breakfast, and back during dinner.

BUT there will be no connection with other passengers in the dinging car, or in the lounges and dome cars.

Lots of passengers normally never move out of their cabins except for meals or showers, but it is the contact with other people, and the "both sides of the track" views from the lounges and domes that we enjoy the most, and which gives so much ambience to the trip.

They have reduced the prices to make up for the lack of certain conveniences.

PS ................. we prefer Jasper to Banff. It's smaller ,quieter and most certainly not as touristy as Banff.

I'm waiting less and less patiently to see if we can have a "normal" trip on VIA to Jasper or further east in September/October, and especially across to NS and back at Christmas.

I love the winter travel!!!

Which you'll get said visits if you do the hotel quarantine and then do the remainder of the 11 days at home.

Let me tell you there will not be nice words from me if they decide to come at any time before 10am. If they want me to quarantine at least let me ****ing sleep. (And yes, that expletive will be used.)

Bloomberg reporting quarantine rules may be loosened in the coming days for fully vaccinated.

Unamed sources within government though as their source.

Depends when that Federal Court judge gets of their ass and comes back with a ruling with the case they heard last week. The 14 applicants in four separate challenges argue the mandatory hotel rules violate their rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms because they are law-abiding people who can safely quarantine at home.

The story says it's going further in that you will only need to self isolate at home until you receive your negative test result so a couple or three days maybe.
