An Immigration lawyer in Bellingham, WA says he has learned through his high ranking CBP sources that the US plans to reopen their side of the border on June 22.

There has been reporting off and on the last couple weeks indicating the US has been losing patience with Canada in regards to the border, and it seems the US may simply move forward and reopen their side, which makes sense, US has no reason to continue keeping their side restricted.

But will the people who cross the border from the US be allowed into Canada, or will they be left in "no man's land" .......... the ditch or field between us?

Just been speaking to a neighbour who spent the winter in Forida. He flew to Buffalo, then took a cab directly to Toronto. He had to stay home for 14 days, 2 cops regularly visited his home to ensure he was abiding by the quarantine rules.

Canadian Citizens and PR's would be permitted entry, just like they currently are.

Canadians have for the most part been able to fly to the US no issue, the US never closed air travel border to Canadians. (the exception being if Canadian had been to certain countries in the 14 days prior they could be barred, but otherwise Canadians have been free to fly to the US without issue.)

US taxi companies along the border saw business increase taking Canadians back home.

Can anyone explain the logic in this...

A vaccinated traveller arriving in Canada has to face the dangers of a forced hotel quarantine, but If you arrive unvacinated, having had a POSITIVE covid test within the last 90 days you DO NOT have to hotel quarantine.??

Well if that is true that is utterly idiotic and makes no sense to me.

It is true, and completely idiotic and illogical. As many of us have said numerous times these restrictions are completely emotional/political and not based on public health science, no matter how much the cronies in government want to tell us so.
Air travellers are only exempt from the 3-night hotel stay if they're:

Great use of our tax dollars.

They seem to be targeting people who drive across to avoid the hotel quarantine with increased harassment while they are in quarantine. Apparently people are being asked at the land border why they chose not to fly into Canada and if they are deliberately avoiding hotel quarantine by driving across.

There's no reason to keep our side closed either - we have surpassed the US in vaccination rates. The US just happens to have a sane, rational government that is focused on a measured, careful return to normal life, whereas Canada has governments at federal and provincial levels that are obsessed with keeping restrictions in place, keeping us in lockdown, and preventing Canadians from easily exercising their Charter rights to enter and leave Canada as they wish, without undue let or hardship.

Well it makes some sort of sense though it is only a supposition ............. Canada and the US announced on May 21 that border closure would be further extended until June 21

Extensions have usually been 4 weeks at a time. Hopeful thinking will always "this is the last extension".

Ontario might not have a reason to keep the border closed.

BC is in a different situation .......... a 4th wave of covid is raging in Washington State, next to us.

They've even been offering gifts if you get vaccinated to try to get their vaccination rate up.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, anyone who shows their proof of vaccination will receive 1 FREE Salted Egg Butter Chicken. Also available at Monaby Jibril.

BC and Washington don't seem to far off from one another when it comes to vaccinations at the moment. With the time frame for most for 2nd dose in BC moving down to 8 weeks from 16 weeks, our fully vaccinated numbers should finally start to go up.

BC:
55.8% of all people in British Columbia have received at least one dose
62.8% of eligible population 12+ in British Columbia have received at least one dose
BC fully vaccinated 156,730 people.

Washington:
55.6% of all people have received at least one dose
65.1% of eligible population 12+ have received at least one dose.
45% of all people are fully vaccinated.

*as these trackers are updated on a regular basis, the data will change, but the above is what the linked sites are showing as of May 27, 2020 at the time of this post.*
