I see that PEI have just fined and incarcerated someone for not respecting Social Isolation requirements. He’ll be respecting them now...sadly so will the RCMP Officer who was in close contact with him.

Hi, does the app ArriveCan replace the CBSA app or you need to download both?

I had the ArriveCan app downloaded and completed with all the info bar a token to collect but found nowhere in Terminal 1 at Pearson on Sunday 12 July to do that - was given a form on arrival to complete instead. I would have thought an app would be preferable to paper?
And we’ve both had followup calls to check on our quarantine arrangements.

Not every terminal at Toronto has the kiosks.

I have used the app a few times when arriving from the UK (into T3 IIRC), but when arriving in T1 from Japan in January, no kiosks and back to the old paper forms!

I think you’re referring to the eDeclaration app which as you say is useless in Terminal 1. The ArriveCAN app is for contact details for Covid quarantine, although it could well be that they use the same machines.

Good luck with the application though Jsmith321. I hope everything works out for you.

I typically end the application process if these tests are involved, I never score whatever they are looking for and they are just a waste of time. I have only done 1 interview process where I know it was AI, but it took me googling and my own investigatory work to learn it, the company never mentioned it would be an AI interview but once they sent the link and email with the info and googling it was, what they are looking for no idea, I didn't get hired or an in person interview, so the AI machine probably didn't like me.
If a company can't be arsed to at least give you the courtesy of a 5 minute phone interview then they don't deserve to have you working for them.

If they treat people like disposable rubbish then those are the exact sort of employees they're going to get.

Do you know, it's so strange. As an IT professional myself, when I first started looking at Canadian immigration around 10 years ago, the federal skilled worker program was almost exclusive to medical professionals and people in more traditionally blue collar professions. Apart from a limited IT sponsorship program which was really only aimed at game developers, most technical IT pros didn't get a look in.

Fast forward to 2020 and IT and tech seem to be Canada's main focus. There are tech specific PNP draws and that sector is booming in many Canadian cities. I think it has been partially helped by heavy immigration numbers from India and Canada courting a lot of IT talent from the US who had become disillusioned by years of anti-immigrant sentiment in America and the increasing difficulty in securing an L1 or H1-B. Also some of the maritime provinces have looked to the tech sector to alleviate their own unemployment rates and struggling economies since many tech jobs can be done from anywhere and those areas of Canada offer a much lower cost of living and more peaceful life than the likes of Toronto and Vancouver

IT has always been a focus for Canadian immigration, at least during the time I've known. If you look back at the original list of 38 eligible occupations for the Federal Skilled Worker program back in 2009, 5 of those were in IT. 5 out of a very short list from the thousands of NOC's seems quite high to me. And IT NOC codes have often been on the 'in demand' streams of PNP's too. It's certainly one of the better fields to be in for Canadian immigration IMO, although I agree that a medical profession is even better.

Are you sure? I wouldn't normally question your knowledge on these matters but I only really remember IT Managers being on there and that's technically not an IT job in the truest sense tbh.

EDIT: I've had a look through this list which is the only one I've been able to find and most of those are games industry-focused professions apart from 2281.

I wasn't including any managerial roles, although I have to confess I'm not au fait with any IT related jobs, so may have it wrong and perhaps some aren't actually IT.

But these were the 5 I was thinking of that were on the limited list of FSW occupations -

Information systems analysts and consultants (2171)

Database analysts and data administrators (2172)

Software engineers and designers (2173)

Computer programmers and interactive media developers (2174)

Computer network technicians (2281)

That seems like a different list from the one I remember.

2173 and 2174 are mostly games industry. The other 3 are normal IT specialisms though.

They went on and off it a couple of times, so weren't all on there the whole time. They were certainly on it for the last list of occupations in 2013 though, and the early ones - not sure about the middle.
