Psychiatrist planning to move to Canada
Hi,
I am looking to relocating to Canada. I’m a psychiatrist in the UK. I do not have CCT so not on the specilist register. I have MRCPsych though and work as a consultant psychiatrist.
What is the likelihood of getting a job? I have been told it is a cost intensive tasking process so I want to have some certainty before committing myself, wife and baby to the process. Are the prerequisite exam(s) difficult and how do I source study materials in preparation.
And finally, what are the steps I need to take to work as a psychiatrist specialist in Canada?

Welcome to BE!
First have a read of the assessment requirements for internationally trained and see what is relevant
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada :: Assessment routes for international medical graduates
and this could be important to you: https://mcc.ca/news/international-de...-out-of-mccee/
and then the Provincial Licensing body - there's a list on this link: The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada :: Provincial and territorial Medical Regulatory Authorities
and then you would need to ascertain if you would be likely to qualify for Permanent Residency through either having enough points to get invited from the Express Entry pool, or one of the Provincial Nominee Programs.
Your first step for that would be to check your CRS points score, assuming for the check that you have top marks for English and you have had your ECA assessment done. Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) tool: skilled immigrants (Express Entry)

Good Evening,
Our friend Dr. Nachiketa Sinha is the current chairman of the Canadian Psychiatric Association (CPA).
He also moved as a psychiatrist from the UK.
Send me an E mail and I will put you both in touch.

you need to contact the regulatory body directly to ask about route you can access or ask recruitment agency like HFO. which province do you plan to relocate?
MCC.Ca for source verification of your documents once you know what steps to take.

I'd suggest that both PEI and Sakatchewan could be considered remote, sparce(sic) and cold, particularly in the winter. :-)

Lower Mainland of BC and Vancouver Island are the "banana belt" of Canada, and really the only places in Canada where you can guarantee not having winter temperatures much below -10C or much above +30C in the summer...
Saskatchewan is one of the Prairie provinces, and the population is INCREDIBLY sparse.
May I suggest that you do some more in depth checking of just where you might want to live, THEN do as Siouxie suggested and see whether you are even eligible to enter the lottery to get a visa.
If you do not like cold, sparse populations or remote places, then Canada may just not be the country for you.

Re: Psychiatrist planning to move to Canada
Hi! I hope I am not hijacking this thread but I am also a psychiatrist planning on moving to Canada. I am an ST6 in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I have looked at the Canadian curriculum and think I have met all the criteria. I have emailed the Ontario Psychiatric Association as well as the Canadian college of child and Adolescent Psychiatry but have not heard anything yet. I am not sure whether it would be advantageous to obtain my CCST or not before emigrating and would be very grateful for anyone’s thoughts or advice before submitting my paperwork to the RCSPC.
Many thanks
Many thanks

Re: Psychiatrist planning to move to Canada
i am currently working as a consultant psychiatrist in UK and considering moving to Canada (more specifically Ontario due to family). It would be helpful if someone has done that and could explain a little. I tried looking through website, pretty confusing. TIA
