Provisional Licence Alberta
Me and the wife are moving to alberta soon on a Bunac visa and then looking to extend it via LMO or PR.
I'm OK as I have a full UK licence so this isnt a problem for me but the wife is looking to start to learn to drive. At the moment she doesnt have a UK provisional, so the plan was to wait till we get over there (in the next couple of months) and apply for one. Is this going to be a problem? Or will it be easier for her to apply for a UK provisional and then exchange it, if that can be done. My parents live in Calgary and they have checked with the AMA and they seem to think it will be fine aslong as she has a valid visa. But it might be better for her to apply for the licence in the UK then swap it as there should be as much hassle. Anyone? |
Re: Provisional Licence Alberta
There's no point, only full licences can be transferred.
Make sure you keep a photocopy of your UK DL btw otherwise you will have car insurance problems. And get proof of your UK car insurance history from your insurer(s) going back at least five years. One thing I've had mentioned to me in the past is that if you move back to the UK (which I'm assuming you may as you are in a temporary category) is that DVLA like to restrict the transferred licences to automatic transmission only, so once again, have proof you had a full UK licence previously. |
