providing references after the job interview
Hi Guys,
I have done some keyword searches in the older threads and checked the Wiki, but could not find a definitive answer for our question. My partner just had an interview yesterday and during the interview they have asked him for references. He promised them to send the contact details of his references today but then we came across the following dilemma: For this position only his current and his previous employment are relevant, i.e. he could give one reference from the previous job, and another one from his current company (his direct manager). However we are not sure what is the standard procedure in Canada: would they only contact the current company, once he has been successful and accepted the job? Or would they call the current company regardless? We were also thinking along the lines: listing two references from the previous job and adding the current direct manager as reference, but asking the company for discretion and only contact the current employer if my partner is the chosen candidate. What would be the best way forward here, could you please share your thoughts? Thank you! |

Re: providing references after the job interview
We have this request all the time from new hires and it is never a problem. If they are seeking references then it usually means they are going to offer a job offer subject to references coming back ok.
