Property Searches

Hey Guys,

It looks like I might be moving to Toronto in the new year (it's on the immigration thread).

So I guess I need to find somewhere to rent, at least to begin with. Are there websites like Rightmove or Trulia I can look at?

Also happy to take recommendations on areas as well. Looking for Family Friendly (Two kids 2 & 4 and another on the way) Transport links to the Old Toronto Area. No idea on price yet, but salary scale should be between 80 & 100k

So far Bedford Park has stood out, but I'm literally just starting

Craigslist & Kijiji are popular out this way. Watch out for rental scams though...

I'm not knowledgeable with neighborhoods but check out:

Realtor.ca
Kijiji.ca
Craigslist.ca

There several others but that's a start. Good luck!🍀

I think I am pretty knowledgeable of neighbourhoods but have not heard of Old Toronto nor Bedford Park, are we talking Toronto ON or Toronto KS?

In ON, the usual suspects are Hgh Park/Swansea, Leaside, Beach.

Re bolded: I had to look it up. I think the OP may mean downtown/the city not outer suburbs.

(Although Bedford Park doesn’t ‘fit’ my understanding ;) ).

Sorry, Google Maps is my only friend atm lol. Yes, downtown Toronto.

Don't have a trip planned until Late Nov/early Dec, so its all I have to go on

Bedford Park is north of Lawrence and around Avenue Road. Its very nice and very expensive! Houses in the $2 million and up region. Rent around 5K for a large family house. Unless a lot of $$ in the bank then way out of line with a 80K or even a significantly larger salary.

I don't want to shatter dreams but Toronto is a really expensive city. I would not even consider trying to live here with 3 kids on that kind of income. I know it can be done and I know many do it, but I wouldn't move countries for the kind of lifestyle it will provide.

You will be lucky to find any 3 bedroom house anywhere downtown for less than $2500 per month. We have been looking as we have 3 small dogs and decided it would be best to look for an apartment near Don Mills area. Location is close to a lot of green areas .....handy for dogs

Assume $100,000 salary your net monthly income would be $5800 http://neuvoo.ca/tax-calculator/Ontario-100000://. Recommended max pay on rental should be 30% which equates to less than $2000 a month

Good to know, Fortunately, I have been a London Commuter for over 15 years, so 1h 40 on train stop to stop is not unusual and some of that was on a UK Government salary, so tight is also the norm. After some more research, I'm guessing my work location will be in Vaughan, which changes things just a little bit.

Yeah, when we moved to the US we had the same sums and ended up paying slightly over as the market was limited.

Bedford Park is Yonge and Lawrence. North of Lawrence, East of Avenue Road, South of Brooke Avenue. Does that help a bit

Yep, all confirmed. The office I will be working out of is in Vaughan, so that makes things a ilittle cheaper and expands the searches.

I used to live in Toronto (Agincourt at one point and Long Branch area at another point) and have a friend who lives on the north edge of 'Bedford Park'. Prices for houses are crazy and based on my last visit there there have been a lot of knockdowns of old smaller houses with large homes squeezed into the original lots, all in the name of 'intensification'. Often times the same number of people live in the house except the front lawn is gone and replaced by riverstone and a driveway for an Audi/Volvo/Subaru/BMW.

Bedford Park doesn't really reflect the diverse range of people who live in Toronto.

Not a very affordable place to lay your head when you first move to the City.

Padmapper (https://www.padmapper.com/apartments/toronto-on). Just make sure you tick 'exclude AirBnB' on the filter.
