Default Preserved timber v concrete foundations

Does anyone have any experience of preserved timber foundations. We are looking at acreages west/north west of Calgary and half the properties we have picked out turn out to have preserved timber foundations. Speaking to one realtor during a visit he said they were not very good and to go for concrete every time. Whilst this is our gut feeling it cuts out a lot of properties we have been considering viewing and just wondered whether someone on BE had any experience good or bad of timber foundations?

I have only ever looked at rural properties south of Calgary. I have never seen one with a timber basement. I would be very wary of it - wood does rot here!

Why are you looking west/north? PM me your price band if you would consider south.

We like the area around Priddis, especially along the 762 and Plummers Road. Most properties south are rather flat and have been warned off going any further south of Millarville because of the sour gas (?) problems.

We havent heard any good reports about timber foundations so are steering clear of them, but that does unfortunately mean a lot of the properties on MLS that we thought would be rather nice have been taken off our list.

We are hoping to come over in the next 7-10 days to do some more serious looking around, following an improved offer on our UK property which we may be accepting.
