Prescription Medication Costs

Re: Prescription Medication Costs
dbd33 Yes I think that kids certainly will benefit and that's a win for sure 100% and we will make sure the teeth are in order before we depart. It's funny as my wife has always had a healthy disdain for the general state of the teeth of the UK population Let's hope the fluoride out there benefits us all!
Oh, there's general tutting here about the state of British teeth, much of it from the people who relieve you of tens of thousands of dollars to render the teeth more American.

and then having relieved you (or more accurately OHs insurance company) of tens of thousands of dollars and left you with a mouth full of ill fitting crowns, say 'this is a bigger job than I thought, perhaps we shouldn't have started with this.'

I have never had health insurance and yet have some children with textbook chompers. That's why I drive a car nearly as old as I am.
I am, in fact, in the course of having two fake teeth bolted in, it's a long process involving bone grafts to the jaw so there's something to screw the anchor bolts into. I haven't kept track of the cost but it must be up to ten grand by now

Yes, my dentist is massively underwhelmed by my British dental work APART from the two dental implants I got in Britain.

Dental work might be better in Canada if you or insurance pays for it but if you can't then gaps are what you have. Basically Canada does better teeth (albeit not necessarily real) but it also does better, or more, gaps too.

I didn't pay much attention in my 9 months in Montreal before moving but in the UK I never saw so many toothless or gap toothed people as I do in NB.

Re: Prescription Medication Costs
Dental work can actually cost more in Canada than it does in the US, its crazy expensive. I am down 2 teeth in my adult life, they caused trouble and it was pay $300-$400 to have it pulled, or 1,000+ for root canals and other work, I never had enough so the teeth come out when they cause trouble, molars so at least not visible.
Dental is inaccessible to low income people often in Canada, some places may have low cost dental offices which help, but often low cost offices will extract the tooth rather than save it as its faster and cheaper.
Dental is a luxury in Canada.

I don’t agree. Maybe dental costs are less in some part of the US, but in NJ it cost more than in Toronto.

Re: Prescription Medication Costs
If you think that's true then you can take your teeth to America as Katie Price takes her boobs to Turkey. I doubt it's generally the case though. In thirty years of funding medical bills for five people it's only twice been worth going to the US. Once was Chicago so there was no cost other than petrol, once was La Jolla which, with hotel and flight and all required a more complex calculation. Americans take their teeth to Mexico or Cuba, one might want to do that, cut out the middle country, but it has to be something that can be done in one big bang; most dental work isn't like that.

Re: Prescription Medication Costs
dbd33 That seems expensive but then again I paid just over £4k a few years back to have my teeth straightened with braces. I had then when I was a kid but the results were not good so I went in again as an adult and this time had them sorted properly. Nowadays for kids at least you have to have some pretty compelling reasons or ugly gnashers to get them done for free on the NHS so many parents end up paying. *sighs* - life was simpler way back when..

I have just had a quote for a crown on a molar. Cost of a crown starts at $1,500...but could cost quite a bit more depending on what is involved.
