The only immigrant issues I've run into is just a confusion that you live in Canada, for example I went to renew my license at the ICBC and the guy behind the counter said "you know you can only renew canadian driving licenses here right?" ...er... yeah? and I had someone ask me for directions to the closest Skytrain station when I was downtown, and I pulled out my cellphone to double check, and the guy was like "are you a tourist?" ... yes I'm a tourist racking up a massive data bill on my cellphone :/
If I ever encountered any hostility all I would have to do is point to the name of the province and the Union flag embedded in the BC flag to shut them up.

Actually I did experience this for myself last week when I had a conversation with a lady who although fairly polite with it, did not even try to hide the fact that they don't want immigrants here. Comments like "Do they not have jobs in Britain??" "Do they only have the ones you don't want to do, like cleaning toilets??" and "We'll let anyone in here lately"....... I was quite taken aback but it has made me think now that perhaps they are not as nice as they appear to be on the surface

There is much truth in this jest; I think the other part is that the Yanks genuinely believe that they are a superior nation to Britain. In Canada, this is not so straight forward. There are many who dislike Britain (for whatever reason) but the have to look at Lizzie on the currency and be reminded that despite all the national identity building, Canada is not quite out of the woods yet.

I wasn’t really being funny. Being an immigrant, especially a British one, is analogous to temping in an office. The temp is really annoyingly eager, wants to really fit in and belong to the group and have everybody see how special they are. In reality, you come across to them as a two-dimensional non-entity and no one gives a naff. As sad as it is, you’re probably not going to be invited to the office bbq or the ski weekend at Jack and Jennifer’s parent’s chalet.

The Fraser Institute is a political lobbying organization, they exist to say that government intervention is bad and will inevitably say that highly regulated car insurance markets such as BC, MB, SK, AB and ON have poorly operating insurance schemes and high rates of fraud. The Fraser Institute is a source of statistics as the BNP is a source of statistics.
The IBC has less of an axe to grind. We can quibble with the quality of their data but it's certainly better than that of the Fraser Institute.
My broad contention is that car insurance is expensive in Canada because people drive badly in Canada and are extremely litigious. My comparison is with the US where, in many States, driving conditions are similar but premiums are one third to one half of what they are here. Your IBC report suggests that the rate of fraud in vehicular insurance claims in ON is 10% (page 46) while in the US 11 to 15% (page 8). It seems to me that the report does not support the contention that the rate of fraud is what makes car insurance premiums so high in Ontario in particular and in Canada generally.
Premiums are high because the traffic laws here encourage collisions and because people drive badly and then sue crazily. I think it doesn't help that many people drive in the style of their home countries and the method appropriate for an ox cart on a dirt road is a poor match for that used for a hot hatch in the city but that's inevitable when everyone's from somewhere else.

If you're suggesting that "US driving conditions are similar" and that the fraud rate in the US is higher, but premiums are one third to one half of Canadian premiums, then the implication is that it is indeed the government-run insurance monopolies that make for higher premiums. Unless of course you are suggesting that Canada is more litigious than the US (unlikely).
Either insurance companies are vastly more profitable in Canada (they aren't) or people in Canada crash a lot (they do).

There is no work in UK. I spent 4 months unemployed, end of last year. I have worked through many recessions and never been affected like I was. Im very grateful to Canada for giving me a good standard of living but i would be back in UK or Ireland if i could get work.
