Question pre-paying for stuff before leaving

Hello, we are due to fly in August to Canada, I am thinking of paying my direct debits (utilities, sky, etc) up to august , basically 3 months worth and then telling the relevant companies that we will no longer be in the country, has any one done this and are the companies open to this idea, t v licence might be 'problematic', but as far as I can see they are getting their cash, anyway any good info would be most helpful, thanks

We did not do any pre/over payment, we looked at each companies contract and looked at the cancellation policy. I then rang and spoke with each company and asked how I should cancel the service with them. Things like TV licence said to ring up 2 - 4 days before we left the house and cancel. They repaid any over payment by reversing the direct debit.

Come to think of it all companies we paid via direct debit, just paid any overpayment back into the same back account.
