PR timescales

I know this question arises alot, I just seem to get the impression of negative feedback when it comes to the whole timescale issue.

We have just submitted our application on Friday 23rd July 2004 and we have no idea how long it will take just to get an acknowledgement back.

We have spent months preparing this information and saving.... We just want to go, howvever I hear stories of over 2 years etc to get accepted which I find terrible.

Now that our application has finally been sent, I am more nervous than ever.

Comments appreciated

We applied in June last year. AOR took just a couple of weeks to arrive. Since then.........nothing. It took us about 6 months to collate all the information for our application.

You learn to be very patient!! The best thing you can do is just get on with your life and not wish it away. PR will eventually come but the Immigration seems to be in a real mess right now, so don't expect too much too quickly. Sorry to sound negative, but I am just being realistic.

We applied on May 24 and received our AOR last Monday July 19, so eight weeks. Recently some people have received theirs in about 6 weeks.
As for the whole process I am expecting 18+ months until medical request.
I agree with Tia that you just have to forget about it for now. At least the application is in and the (very long) count down can start.

i think it all depends where you are applying from and under what class.

im a canadian citizen, but have been resident in the UK for almost 8 years now.

i married my british husband late december 2003 and we sent off the application for family class immigration end of january 2004. sponsorship was approved march 24, 2004 and his visa was approved july 19, 2004. we used an immigration consultant and it cost us a pretty penny as it was a straightforward case. i would probably recommend saving that amount if its a clean cut case. but in all fairness, without consulting him, we wouldnt have known about the decrease in processing times for canadian citizens living outside of canada

now i cant wait to go back!

Absolutely agree that we must just get on with things however long it takes.

We are applying for PR under skilled worker class. My wifes parents and brother alreadt stay in Toronto. He sponsored them 2 years ago, so we cant utilise the sponsor class.

The delay will ultimately effect the family reunion.

The problem we all face is that we don't know with what number we have to start counting down.

Hi,

We have only just submitted to London ~ 9th August 2004 ~ and received our AOR on 1st Sep 2004. 3 weeks. Our Immigration consultant said it will be about 8-9 months before medicals, I'm sure he is being very optimistic. Anyway, lets hope he is right and I'm the pessimist! He has just asked us to get updated Police Certificates, so who knows...

Cheers,
Patrick.

Re: PR timescales

The CIC London update the processing times on their website every 3 months or so.
They have recently updated and processing times from AOR to final visa stamp times are beteen 10 - 30 months for skilled workers if you got your application in between July 2003 and JUNE 2004 to London.

They did have predicted processing times for people applying after this date , but they seem to have been removed from the page.
When I last looked they were , I think anout 14-36 months! maybe why they removed them!

We sent our application off on 21st july got our AOR 16 august....don't anticipate hearing much else for at least the next 12 months if everyone else's comments are a sound basis for comparison. there is a brits to canada yahoo group somewhere which tracks timelines, it make interesting reading, sorry I can't remember the link, maybe someone else can?....

Keep us posted how you go.

Hallo there!

Look at it as planning time - visit friends, visit places you haven't been before, soak up the atmosphere in the UK, store up good memories - also start planning your new life in Canada, fact finding trips are expensive, don't assume that you need to move to Ontario or BC, investigate the other provinces, look at the prairies and the maritimes.

Canada is a big country, Toronto and Vancouver aren't the only places to get jobs - depending on what you do, the smaller cities might be better bets.

When I moved, the figure was 1.5 to 2 years - we were fast tracked on a pilot project for IT people and got a visa in under a year. On reflection, I sometimes feel like we made rush decisions - we only decided to move to Calgary after I landed in Toronto and got a grip on the reality of life in Canada.

Yet another Glaswegian!! Welcome to the forum!!

Depending where you move to, Canada is a very Scottish place - it's a very good place to be a Scot and there's a hell of a lot of us here already.

To any fellow Scots out there - especially fellow Glaswegians - feel free to PM me.

Back in the 80's when I moved to England (wish it had been Canada!!) it was the complete absence of jobs and continual rain.

I still can't take the rain ... it was a wet August here and it drove me nuts.

Whilst it has been a pretty rubbish summer (isn't it always?), this past week the weather has been amazing.

We also left 5 years ago for similar reasons (to england) but came back last year to buy a place and set the wheels in motion for our move to canada. I think for our first 3 months back here, it rained every single day....not the most uplifting experience. Having returned back, we know for sure it's not where we want to spend the rest of our lives....
