Power Station contacts
Hi all,
We are in the process of applying for PR. My husband is a Plant Manager of a UK power station and as such is fairly specialised (unlike me as an accountant!). Anyone got any good contacts with power stations? Ideally we would like to be in BC but will be flexible. Many thanks |
Re: Power Station contacts
Hi Patj,
friends of ours are moving over to Ontario early next year, husband works at power stations and has just done 3 months working over there. He used to work at cellafield, but is now somewhere in lancs, i will contact them today and ask them to pm or answer you on here, they are not on much, he just came back this week. Will let you know either way. |
Re: Power Station contacts
i was asked by good friends of ours to contact you regarding for query.....
there is a very high demand for skilled workers over in canada, especially in certain fields. as a radiation safety officer with 17 years experience, i was very attractive to an canadian company. i have just returned from canada, having worked at a nuclear powerstation for the last 3 months and hopefully returning in jan 2005 for a further 12 months. getting work in your field is very difficult, unless there is a shortage of canadian workers....i have been told that you would have to take a more junior role, then work up the ladder again !!!! i don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but i came across foreign engineers, specialised workers and other professionals who took jobs as janitors so as to get into the sites. once in, they are allowed to apply for internal vacancies which may suit them more. another thing to consider is, employment conversion training, into the canadian process....i had to udergo an 3 week conversion course, so as i could work on the sites. if failed i would be sent home. my advice would be to send out your CV to as many companies as you can, keep your fingers crossed, and try to make contacts with the professional body over in canada. it can work, as i found out myself............
