Its interesting how all the people that complained about Canada and went back to the UK, now want to come BACK to CANADA.

I think that is evidence enough that this is the place to be!

I often think about what it would be like to move back, but I think come back to Canada as well!

Life just feels better here.

Can you be more specific about the difference? I have been in Canada for over 30 years with only two trips back for vacations so I haven't really been able to get a handle on what it's really like living there other than my old acquaintances seem to be doing OK.

Many of the comments on this forum about the differences seem to be about superficial issues.

I honestly think it is a state of mind. Or more appropraitely the mind set.

Anything I say will no doubt be seen as slanderous to the british culture. But these are my views. I will list the more pressing ones, but this is an age old arguement on theis message board!!

1. Social Acceptability:
In the schools:The children from year 3 to year 6 are expected to change into the PE stuff in a co-ed enviroment. I have a problem with this due to puberty both in boys and girls. Some girls by year 6 have their cycles already. And my son has shown some changes that he is not comfortable with others seeing. In the primary grades they do PE in their underpants no vests. They change in the class room and parade through the school to the gym to do PE. Now on a strickly child level the kids are ok with it. But with all the Perverts out there in the schools - ie: Hutton case. is this still wise to do? Just 3 weeks ago a PE teacher in Yorkshire was caught with 167 counts of child pornography on his PC including Vaginal entry. Article: Doncaster Free Press
On the Television: The laws are more lax about what is allowed on day to day programming, including commercials. As an adult I love the stuff. As my 4 year old copying it ---- well lets just say emmmm not very appropraite.

2. Work ethic: The british work force has suffered so much - overall there is little teamwork or company loyality. People have been beaten down for so long it is hard for anyone to rise above it. This is not fair to the ones who are joining the workforce in the coming years. It is just propogating the same old same old. And it is not fair to the ones who are in it either.

3. This leads to an overwhelming negative attitude country wide. Why do so many people want to leave?? Because it is gone beyond any repair.

4. the negative attitude leads to poor customer service. and lack of trust in our buying power. Which leads to a comsumable sociaty, we the british people on a whole seem to have lost site of our heritage, our greatness.

Granted there people out there who try day in and day out. And there are people who are succesful. But I am stating the general.

The overall lack of Hope, Drive, Dreams, and Happiness is hard to find in Britain - unless you are on PopStars!!! and hope to manufacture a miracle......

PS please excuse any spelling errors. These are my view3s and my life experiences - I will not debate them I just post em, Because I was asked.

I noticed the negativity of some of my visitors from the UK. On my last visit in 99 I felt claustrophobic because, compared to Canada, everything seems so small and crowded with people and cars everywhere. Maybe the negativity is because people simply don't have enough living space.

As a new country, Canada doesn't have much architecture but sure has lots of geography.

Mmm, have you seen most of the architecture in British cities? It's nothing to write home about. British big cities are pig-ugly compared to those in Italy etc.
You definately have a point about space! England in particular is extremely overcrowded. It's impossible to get away from the crowds, even in the countryside. I think this makes me people irritable and bad tempered. As I've said before, often you cannot put your finger on the problems with the UK. I think it's just a culmination of a lot of minor torments!

Crime, lousy weather, overcrowding and our rampantly materialistic society all wear you down.

at the time - i did not know this. I have been back in the uk for 4 years now and this is info the I have been exposed to.

I left the uk when I was a child and all I had was what my parents told me and I had experience on vacation in the uk.

I moved here with my Canadian hubby and Kids as a adult. We had a vacation this xmas in toronto and I realized then that I could no longer live in the uk. But it was only a vacation and inorder to move back to canada we have to finalize and sort our uk exhistance and move properly.

I don't want our time spent in the uk to be a waste so..... We will get and do everything we can then move back with a stronger position to make the best of Canada.

My mom lives in Barrie and loves it!!!

Sorry Billy but you can get pan bread, square sausage, black pudding, steak pie, walnut whips in Canada for at least the last 40 years (my parents were Scottish so I was brought up on this in Canada). Try looking for Scottish bakers/butchers. The one in the Golden Mile, Scarborough was there for over 30 years but did close down 2 years ago. The other is at Brimley/Ellesmere in Scarborough, next door to St. Andrews Fish & Chips served with the traditional malt vinegar. I'm sure there must be lots of others in Canada.

However, you are right that you can't get this in England.

So true. It doesn't matter where you go in Canada you're likely to come across spectacular and varied scenery which definately has a humbling effect on the individual.

Hi CDNRETURNER, thanks for the info. I`ve been to Canada quite a lot in the past few years, but can`t say i was looking for these things, i was too busy enjoying the local quisine. Now that i`m going on a P.R. shortly i was thinking of what i might miss. I can`t say i agree with a lot of the comments about food being better in the U.K ( i do notice people comparing Canadian and ENGLISH differences, well a cold beer at a reasonable price suits me fine, i don`t know anyone north of the border who would miss warm beer
BTW, i`m going to deepest Winnipeg, which may not be the `centre of the universe` unlike Calgary, but it is the centre of Canada
