Poor bus drivers
#16
You have a point. I base my views from the views of our close friends who moved there with work and are itching to leave.
That said, i actually like the UK very much and think the climate is great in both weather and employment/financial abilities for myself so i could be a tad biased and the Winnipeg weather would scare me away
Were i a bus driver then my outlook may differ.

I'm an example of 70's Yorkshire state education. All they taught us was about sheep, coal and whippet's!

It is not unheard of for these kinds of lists to add up to more than 100% as quite a number of people self-identify as being of more than one ethnic group.

I think they should re-word the phrase to "Disposable Worker permits" rather that Temporary Work permits, I read the newspaper articles and I think there vision is very short sighted, To me it reads that when times where good and no Canadians wanted jobs as low paid bus drivers then it OK to exploit drivers from the UK trying to improve there familys lot in life and now that theres a slow down in the economy they feel bad that there are some unemployed oil field workers sitting around drinking beer !!!!, they dont want bus driver jobs !!! they want to sit and drink beer until the oil fields re-hire and they can earn in a week what a bus driver gets in a month, as soon as thing start to take off again Calgary Transit will be in the shit they were 2 years ago and where will they go for more driver then ? Guess where ? you got it, more poor unsuspecting bus drivers from England..........

If those coming in choose to overlook the word TEMPORARY its hardly canadas fault. Temporary means it needs to be renewed, if things change then you might be out on your ear.
Immigration exists to fulfil Canadas needs, no one elses. Dont kid yourself otherwise, we are nearly all here to strengthen Canadas economy, anything else is just a side effect of that.

I hear ya, BUT, its such a short sighted knee jerk reaction, you no that they will now advertise for bus drivers, train then and employ 18 new canadian drivers, within 3 months 4 will be off sick with stress, 2 will have had accidents, 1 will be in court over sexual harrasment by which time the economy will have picked up and the rest will chuck the busses to go back to what they did 2 years before, I drive trucks and let me tell you it no picnic out there, infact its a sit job and busses are the worst, dealing with the public and neds is stressfull

However I will add it is NOT Calgary Transit that wants to ship these people off home to the UK.
They have been fighting with the province over the TWP renewals in order to keep the drivers but so far to no avail.

I think I read that out of the 18 that arrived there are still 16 working after 18 months , That has to be record for any transit authority, bus driver come and go like no ones business, here in Scotland we have loads of polish bus drivers who dont speak any english ? maybe the calgary drivers would like to come to Scotland ? Oh hang on........................We would never send someone back home in favour of a UK citizen, that would be a terrible thing for us brits to do
