Poll on Canadian experience

So many people who respond on this board seem to feel negatively about things in Canada I have started to worry I am doing the right thing. I would therefore like to poll how people feel about emigration to canada post the experience:confused:

You have started 9 or 10 threads this evening. Everything you are asking is covered on other threads and on Wiki at top of page. You should really get reading.

Are the results of a poll conducted amongst complete strangers likely to sway you in one direction or another?

Only way of knowing if it's for you is to come here and experience it.

R I C H is right. If you have done all the background research, listened and read people's experiences - you still need to get out there and give it a go. This is unless you have found something which puts you off.

You have to go to increase the standard of your life, whether it cost much or not--if you are going to struggle or get by day by day like you may be in the UK then you may not see a difference.

Life is to be lived---live it !!!

Bare in mind that this board is far from a representative cross section of all expats. If you dont have a problem, in general you have no need to come here to seek advice on dealing with something. Over time you will notice that only a fraction of those "on the way" to canada spend much time back here after landing, there might be a couple of posts describing the landing experience and their experience in the first few months....and then nothing more.

There are two schools of thought on this, either they are too busy enjoying what canada has to offer to post here, or they are too poor now to have an internet connection...

There is a whole forum full of reasons....

Weather, Family, Job prospects, just the tip of the iceberg I suspect.

Could/would you please pinch yourself to make sure you're real.

The answer is simple. They do not like their life/want to be in Canada or are desperately homesick. Some of their reasons will be identical, some different.

Emiigrating to Canada, is , I believe an itch rather than a necessity.

You're moving from one G8 country to another.

The difference in lifestyle ain't that huge really.

If you want wilderness walk the Pennine way, go live in Scotland, go partying in Widnes on a Saturday night, sail round the Solent, or go to Maine Rd. on a Saturday. (I know, I know ,they have new ground)

British countryside is just as georgeous as Canadian.

You can garden year round in the UK, here only for 3 and a half weeks.:D

Pubs are (were) better in Britain, but you can get a steak sandwhich cheaper here in a pub, while getting a genuine "black and tan" with Guiness and Newkie Brown.

I believe it's about the itch.

If you need to scratch it, come on over.

If you have no adventurous streak in you the move might not be successful.

The pieces of string are too short, of course.

Just take a step back and consider the variance of the posters on this board and then consider that starting a series of threads asking simplistic questions with no answer may have enamored you to some posters less than optimally.

I would like to dispute this - we can, in fact, garden for about 4 and half weeks in Calgary. Please stop trying to put people off

I certainly don't remember mine. :(

Yup, a waste of both. Black & Diamond should be just that.

That's your own fault for wanting to live closer to the mountains. :p

12 weeks around our house if as Triumphguy says you can avoid the damned hail.;):D

Should have moved to Edmonton - they apparently have four more weeks of frost-free days than Calgary - who'd have thunk it, eh?

That's actually deceiving - they have more hours of daylight, but it's in the same 41/2 weeks:D. They have longer days in summer!

Their average temp is also slightly higher.

Japan is a G8 country. Sussex, it ain't.

The difference in lifestyle ain't that huge really.
Mine is completely different to when I lived in the UK.

If you want wilderness walk the Pennine way, go live in Scotland, go partying in Widnes on a Saturday night, sail round the Solent, or go to Maine Rd. on a Saturday. (I know, I know ,they have new ground)

True, but there is less of it and it's over-crowded.

You can garden year round in the UK, here only for 3 and a half weeks.:D
May to October, in my case.

Pubs are (were) better in Britain, but you can get a steak sandwhich cheaper here in a pub, while getting a genuine "black and tan" with Guiness and Newkie Brown.
"Were" is the keyword. The distinction between a British pub and a Canadian pub is increasingly blurred.

I believe it's about the itch.

If you need to scratch it, come on over.

Agreed.

Just my thoughts.

Ive no problem with dumb questions, God knows they are not the first and wont be the last, But winding each other up is going to end in trouble. My mother always told me "If you dont have anything to say, dont say anything" If you think a question is dumb, dont answer it.

Just pause for a second before hitting "Submit Reply" and ask yourself if you are adding something positive to the thread, or are you just going to end up making compete strangers think you are an arse.
