Police certificate required for Brit?

Could someone confirm whether a resident/citizen of the United Kingdom is required to submit a police certificate for sponsorship to Canada?

In the Guide to Immigrating, the United Kingdom is not one of the countries listed as requiring a police certificate, however in Appendix A it has the address you should contact to obtain a certificate if you live in the UK. I'm confused  Is the certificate required???

Re: Police certificate required for Brit?

The call centers suggest that you DO submit a police cert - even though UK is not listed. It seems you can never have enough information so you are better off getting one. And since sept 11 they WILL run a background check on you.

Don't use the forms in the immigration pack. These are no use since the data protection act.

Go to you local police web site and follow the link for "Contact us" then "Apply for access to information about you held on [you local] Police Systems".

You will need to fill out a form
This is the one I did from essex police:

http://www.essex.police.uk/pages/contact/a96.pdf

Takes about 4 weeks but keep on at them, they lost my first one.

Cost is ten quid.

If you are talking inland applications then the UK is on the list of needed
police clearnaces as you can seein the guide

http://www.cic.gc.ca/e-
nglish/pdf/kits/guides/5289E.PDF

page 20.

And for outside applications it states you need one from every country you
have lived in since the age of 18 in the last 10 years, so the UK is counted
there too.
