Mr. Miller , First time I am participating in this forum . I have got the following queries pertaining to “ Canadian Immigration , Skilled worker category’ . I have completed 4 Years Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics with total 16 Years fulltime study . According to the new immigration law and following clause how many points I am eligible (20 or 22) to achieve.
“A Three Years Diploma , trade certificate or apprentceship AND at leat 15 years of full time or full time equivalent study (22)."

My second question is , I want to gain 5 points for the “Masters Degree of my wife under the category of “Adoptability� . However Initially I am not interested to apply her immigration until I get settle down properly in Canada therefore Can I get 5 points only by submitting our marriage certificate + her copy of degree. What other documents are required to submit ? Is it mandatory to submit the copy of her passport .

You will not get 5 points for wife's education if she is not accompanying you
to Canada. She must be your accompanying dependant (apply with as your
dependant) for PR visa in order for you to get those 5 points - no other way
around, sorry.

You'll get only 20 points for a single Bachelor level university degree with at
least 14 years of education.

22 points apply only for non-university trade certificates or diplomas as well
as for at least 2 Bachelor level university degrees - none of those apply to
your credentials.

I had applied for Canadian Immigration in the year 2001 as “ Technical Sales Specialist� (6Yrs Experience) from United Arab Emirates (UAE) with requested interview location in London .
My points then were calculated as per following:

Age - 10 (max)
Occupation - 1 (for going as Technical Sales Specialist)
ETF - 15 (points set for Technical Sales specialist)
Work Experience - 6 (max)
demographic factor - 8 (max)
education - 15 (for bachelors degree)
language - 9 (full points for English language)
Personal suitability – 5 points ( considering 5 points only at the time of interview)
My real Aunt in Canada - 5 points

Total 74 points

After wards I changed my Profession and started working as Software Programmer / Analyst,and received an offer from a company in USA and joined this company . Then I transferred my file from London to Buffalo Newyork. I have received the file number from Buffalo in the month of October 2001.

MY QUESTION IS AS FOLLOWS

Now if I receive the interview call before 31 March 2003 my case will be evaluated as per Old point system ,
In order to make my points better ( considering change of profession as computer programmer / Analyst ) which has

Occupation - 10 (points for going as Computer Programmer )
ETF - 15 (points set for Computer Programmer)
Work Experience - 4 ( for 2 Years experience)

After receiving the interview call letter before 31 March 2003 Can I send a request to “Canadian Immigration� to evaluate my case as per my new profession� , for which I will receive much better points .

Can you please guide me how to handle this case .

You won't get "better points" as you don't have enough work experience as
software programmer (you stated that you applied in 2001, so you don't have 2
years experience as programmer, you didn't even have a minimum 1 years required
as such), so leave your application as it is.

I started my job as Software Progammer/ Analyst after receiving my file number from LONDON i.e in the month of March 2001 . So approximately till today's date i have 18 Months Experience as Software Programmer / Analyst .

Considering 18 Months Experince in new Profession What is your valubale opinion in this case ? Should i go for changing the profession in order to gain more points?

I have a diploma and a Bachelor degree in CIS(Computer Information
Systems)from same school and it took 2 years and 8 month to get this
diploma without any vacation (You have to finish 8 trimester for the
diploma, 9 trimester for the degree). Is this mean I can have 22
points for my diploma? I understand that i can have only 20 points for
my degree. Thanks in advance!!!

Again - changing occupation now will not really help as application is assessed
on the basis of facts at the time of application. You will be assessed as
applied, period.

I don't know - without seeing your credentials and assessing all circumstances
it would be just a speculation to say anything other than the highest
credential counts. Your Bachelor's degree is higher than a diploma, isn't it?
And it was earned during the same time plus one trimester as your diploma,
right?

I had received file number from Buffalo in the month of October 2001 . So now 12 months are passed . I want that Canadian Immigration give me the interview date before 31 March 2001 before implementing the new law on my case .
Is any way to expedite the case and get the interview date fast ?.
Is any online facility / through call centre (phone number) available so that i could check the status of my file.?

Normally Now a days how long " Buffalo Centre" is taking in providing the interview date (After the issuance of file number) ?

There is nothing you can do to expedite the process and there are tens (if not
hundreds) of thousands of other who wish to have interview prior to March 31,
2003, unfortunately majority will not be that lucky...

Currently applicants who's applications were received by Buffalo in September
2001 are slowly getting their assessment notices with decision about interview
requirement or waiver. There is not a chance for those receiving now notices
that they are required to attend the interview to have such scheduled before
the end of March 2003 - you will get assessment notice about a month or two
from now and if interview is required then you are out of luck as your wish to
have interview before the end of March will not be fulfilled.

Thanks for all the guidance you have been offering on this group. I
have a doubt about Post Graduate Qualifications.

I am an Engineering Graduate with Post Graduate Qualifications in
Management. I have done a 2-year full time program in International
Business Managment from SPJIMR,
India.(www.spjimr.org) They have
awarded Post Graduate Diploma in Managment at the end of the program.
Would this "award" of the Post Graduate Diploma evade my chances of
getting full points for the Post Graduation?

I don't know - if it is a Master Degree (although it doesn't look like one) and
you have at least 17 years of education then you'll get 25 points. If it is a
Bachelor level degree then you have 2 of such degrees and with at least 15
years of education it will bring you 22 points. But if it is just a post
graduate diploma then you are still ending up with only 20 points for your
single Bachelor degree.

Thanks for the information. Can you also elaborate on the following:

1) A student does a 2 year full time MBA program from a University and
is awarded a Masters in Management Studies.

2) Another Student does a 2 year Full time MBA program from another
Autonomous Institute. This Institute SP Jain Institute of Managment
Studies, Bombay, India is the only GE Partner Institute in the world.
It is ranked amongst the best 10 Business schools in India.

However this institute awards a Post Graduate Diploma in Management to
the succesful students from the 2 year Full time MBA program.

Would these students be considered on PAR OR will the student with the
Masters program be given the FULL MARKS for the Post Graduation
program.
