Warning as snow sweeps across UK
Motorists were warned to take care on the roads as heavy snow affected eastern parts of Britain.

Up to 5cm of snow, together with hail and sleet, was forecast to fall on areas including eastern Scotland, the South East of England, the North York Moors, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.

The snow showers were widespread on the east coast, spreading from Northumberland to as far south as Kent, the PA WeatherCentre said.

There was also a smaller chance of snow showers in London.

Blustery winds will make it feel especially cold in some areas.

The Highways Agency warned that very low overnight temperatures had led to ice forming on the roads.

A spokesman said drivers should take care in likely "hazardous conditions".

He added: "The Highways Agency is advising drivers to check for up-to-date information on weather and road conditions before they set off, and during their journey."

Eastern coastal areas were likely to see more heavy snow later on, especially in Kent and East Anglia.

On Sunday, severe blizzards on the east coast of the US affected hundreds of British travellers as more than 35 flights to and from the UK were cancelled.




Will we survive?? 5 cm -- I remember 5 feet in Alberta as a kid!! People are already leaving work early!! LMAO :D :D

What was really funny was watching the West Brom game on Saturday morning just as it started to snow.........and then I looked outside my window over here and couldn't see across the road.

OMG 5 centimetres of snow!!!

They should be in Halifax - I think they got 30-50 centimetres and that was about the third time in a week!!

I read a thing somewhere - can't remember where now - it was really funny. Canadians talking about UK reports of "blizzards" and towns being buried under 3 cm of snow - it said something along the lines of - that isn't a blizzard. A blizzard is when you lose your car until spring etc. etc.

LMFAO! And will the trains run ok, or will it be the 'wrong type of snow' on the rails and bring the network to its knees?! :D

Sorry, gotta go. I'm off to Sainsbury's with the rest of the locals to panic buy 20 loaves of bread, 10 pints of milk and some Bovril :rolleyes: Sure hope I can fit it in my trolley + the shelf underneath? LOL, just kidding there.

I'm in Norfolk, and we did get the 5cm snow warning. I don't know if that's how much actually fell, because none of it settled, lol. Anyway, it was incredibly cold at about 1C at night, and I mean cold. Don't laugh. I'm no -20C virgin either, but it was the North Sea wind and the dampness. -20C (not in the UK, of course) any day.

I was hoping the entire country would come to a standstill, but it was just too damn warm.

Anyway, I'm not gonna post much (if at all) until I get my emigration process underway (not likely in the next few years), but I've been reading this forum for quite a while, and have found it informative and enjoyed it a lot.

Thanks everyone for sharing all your positives and negatives and giving a more balanced picture of where you live.
