Please Remember

Remembrance Day, November 11. Please remember all those who serve or have served their country, whatever side they were on. Many paid the ultimate price, many still carry the scars and families still grieve.

This has been around a while, but is quite pertinent to the moment.

What a beautiful song. It is just such a shame that there are people out there that dont appreciate the enormity of the contribution these brave people for us to live a free life. I hope someone thumped the guy afterwards!! He would of deserved it!

Thank you so much for sharing that. I have never seen this, or heard the song before. Very powerful. I am always heartened by the number of young people who turn out for the Remembrance Day service at our local cenotaph. There will always be some ignorant people, but thankfully very few. We should never, ever forget.

Our office in Calgary will actually be closed for Remembrance Day as a mark of respect. I have just noticed Poppies for sale today. I find in general that Canadians are very respectful for the day.

Quoting from the Wiki article called Holidays and Festivals-Canada:

In Manitoba, Remembrance Day is not a statutory holiday, but legislation requires the compulsory closing of all businesses, with some specified exceptions.

In some of the jurisdictions in which Remembrance Day is a statutory holiday, employers can require employees to work on November 11th, but give them another paid day off work in lieu of Remembrance Day. Several companies give their employees December 27th instead of November 11th.

It is not a statutory holiday in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Ontario and Quebec.

Some of my Calgary employers required me to work on November 11th, but gave me December 27th off in lieu of Remembrance Day.

Remembrance Day is a holiday for us, but we choose to take it off the day before Canada Day this year instead. It's used as a floating holiday by our company.

I am well aware of that, but just prior to seeing this post I had been talking to the President of our small company as to what to do as the holiday fell on a Tuesday. He felt it should not be used as a float day but that the day be kept as a mark of respect holiday. Therefore we will be closed.

Next sarky comment...

I tried to forward it as well, but it didn't work. Any tips?

Hi, I went on my superwall. Clicked on videos and typed pittance of time into the search box just below where the videos played. There were a few to choose from as it seems quite popular on you tube. Just clicked on the version I wanted and then forward to who ever you want. Good Luck. Katrina
