Please dont laugh!...Its about bears!
Sorry if this sounds like a joke....
My husband is really worried about bears in NS  Are they around alot? eg. Dont go out in the dark in your garden etc (as we were told recently) I feel silly now! :o |
Re: Please dont laugh!...Its about bears!
It's the edge of the wilderness here, yes, but you'll probably only see a bear if you live in a blueberry field or go to Shubenacadie wildlife park.
In my relatively short time here I've only heard the coyotes pack-hunting one time. I did see a rather large wolf-like creature running across the highway once, oh and a rather nasty looking wild dog (looked like a cross between an American pitbull and Cerberus), again running across a highway. There are cougars too but again, they're of the invisible variety. If he needs to be scared of something here, it should be low quality vegetables and freezing rain.

Re: Please dont laugh!...Its about bears!
I've only seen one bear in four years and I work in wild blueberry research, so I should see them a lot! I used to work at the wildlife park at Shubenacadie though and so used to see the two bears there (Cinnamon and Ginger) quite often. There was a bit of a kerfuffle about them a couple of years ago when some halfwit woman let her child feed them crisps through the bars and then complained when one of them bit her:rolleyes: So long as your husband doesn't try to feed them crisps he should be fine!

Hi
Just be sure you can identify the type of bear, the attachment is all you need to know to protect yourself in the woods. Attachment 78668 :lol: |

I think we should reassure the OP though that there are no Grizzlies in NS (thank the lord for that!) |
Re: Please dont laugh!...Its about bears!
:D That picture made me laugh.
Interesting point tho OP. My parents have just bought quite a bit of land in eastern Ontario. We haven't seen much wildlife as of yet - heard lots of coyotes - but the neighbours have reports of wolves tracking them in the bush and a lady in the village reported a black bear in her yard. It's not quite like going for a walk in the woods in Wiltshire... |

This is what they look like when they are angry.

Getting attacked by a bear is a bit like being in a plane crash. Very rare, nothing to worry about, but a very big deal if it actually happens. But in general they shun people and towns unless the people and towns go to them. And they are all asleep now anyways. |
