Pineapples
After much research I am still not clear on this one. We will be living 10 mins from the US border in BC. We are fruit junkies and nearly had heart attacks at the price of pineapples in the Canadian stores. They were properly priced in the US stores just over the border. Will we be able to bring them back over the border? The CBSA website does not specifically exclude them, but says leaves are not allowed. Most pineapples have leaves. Any local experience?

I would suggest a sharp knife and remove the leaves prior to entering Canada - seems the most simple way to bring them in. :) Edited to add pdf |
Re: Pineapples
Thanks Siouxie...looks like we might get away with trimmed fruit. We'll try it and take guidance from the reaction at the border.

Re: Pineapples
I'm not sure where near the border you are headed in BC but fruit in Southern BC grows amazingly, is local and can be picked up cheaply... Just not pineapples!!

Re: Pineapples
Creston, and yes we know the local fruit is fantastic. We are looking forward to that. But we are fruit tarts and pineapples are a big part of our indulgence. Not a lot beats a juicy ripe pineapple for taste, except maybe a juicy ripe mango. And we may have trouble at the border with those as there seems to an issue with a brown moth.

Re: Pineapples
I thought I'd seen everything on this forum.
I guess you live and learn... |
Re: Pineapples
How precious.
Beats worrying about where to find Bisto Best or decent cheese by a long mile. |
Re: Pineapples
I'm sorry, was my question on pineapples somehow unworthy?

I buy pineapples. Not professionally and not in huge volume but, perhaps fortnightly, I buy a pineapple. Typically, I eat half of that pineapple, on a pizza, as a desert, in summer made into a salsa per the Barbecue Bible. I like pineapples. I've never looked at the price nor given a moment's thought; isn't a 10% shift in the price of pineapples a .0001% movement in the household budget? The price of processed grapes, now that matters, that's worth going to Buffalo for the saving, but pineapples? How many do you eat? |
Re: Pineapples
No your Q is not unworthy. I think it's just that the "regulars" are used to seeing cheese and chocolate Qs but not many had given a thought to the possibility that pineapples might be equally important to some!
It makes a nice diversion, I think! S |
