Phone contracts

I'm looking at different phone companies and contracts in Nova Scotia and someone recommended Telus, I was just wondering if anyone would recommend anyone else or if they're a good company to go with?

That and, why does it say I would have to pay for incoming calls.....?

You just do pay for incoming calls in Canada. But I know with Rogers you can pay an additional $15 per month and you can receive unlimited free incoming calls.

How much is the charge for an incoming call, do you know?
It's insane that they'd charge you to receive a call...

Welcome to Canada. If you think that's insane, have you checked out the cost of car insurance yet?

As far as I know the charge for incoming is the same as the charge for making a call. It's just the way it is over here. Swings and roundabouts as to where the costs of living are going to hit you!

my car insurance is more than twice what it used to be in the UK. But then, where we are, there isn't any road tax.

Swings and roundabouts - just like the cell phones

Typical car insurance for a new immigrant? $2-3k Suspect that's more than you pay in the UK.

So receiving a call uses my minutes that I get each month? That's ok then, and insurance hopefully will be ok.. I'm only 17 haha

Actually that's only if you had a clean history in the UK for 6 years - otherwise double it.

Just got back some quotes on car insurance - $4k seems to be the average - although I can get that down on some, and have not yet started bartering - on a new car ... I have a clean UK license for the past 17 years ... so good luck if you think you can get that anywhere near UK prices!

The way the BC system works is that everybody starts on the same basic scale. You get discounts for at-fault claim free years, and pay premiums if you have at-fault claims. There is no loading for age, or anything else.

I remember from the UK of teenagers paying over £2,000 to drive a 1.0L car worth £1,000. They would find insurance in BC good value. For the rest of us ...

My UK OH and I (CAD) got insurance with Johnsons and they recognized his UK Driving History. Our insurance is approx. $1200 / year.

Some of the newer providers are giving free unlimited incoming calls & texts and free outgoing international texts. We use Koodo, which is linked to Telus. 150 mins + free incoming calls & text + free outgoing text + free outgoing international text....for $35 + HST

Not as cheap as I had it in the UK but best so far out here. I tried to get both mine and wife's phone on same contract but as we had no credit history they would not let us. We had to apply seperatly and have an account limit of $200 per month. Not been over $35 yet.

Network coverage is great as it falls back onto Telus
