Pet Insurance.
 

Hi

I appologise if this has already been done, but we have a puppy (5 months old already) and would like to insure him, the quotes I have been given seem rather pricey has anyone got any recommendations? We are already in Canada (Alberta) so Canadian companies would be best.

Have you tried http://www.petplan.ca/? There's an English version and I had my rabbit insured with them - unfortunately they don't do insurance for rabbits in Canada!

Yeah I have - the quote I got from them for half decent coverage was nearly $30 a month, just wondered if there was anything slightly more competetive than that?

Hi, Don't know if they're any good as I havn't got around to sorting out our 3 month old pup yet but the vet told us to try www.vetinsurance.com

Ahhh does she like bizzare things to munch on? Doe you get a nights sleep yet? Henry will pace up and down during the night, if we try to lock him up he just woofs, the last two nights have been pretty good though, he has slept a bit longer then usual! I had a look at the site you mention and it looks pretty good.....looks like quite a well covered plan. Has blue (I have got her name right?) seen her 1st snow yet? Henry used his nose like a shovel and he looked like he had icing sprinkled all over it.

Piff Poff............Yep, especially stones & seaweed, she gives a whole new meaning to the word 'dogbreath' :eek:
I'll probably regret saying this & get flamed for it but Blue (good memory PP!!!) is crate trained ~ just during the night as we have 2 cats & I didn't want them to hurt her ~ she knows the crate is bed (its huge, by the way) & seems totally at ease in it, she sleeps all night & doesn't wander at all.
My teenage has taught her to 'speak' so now she barks on command!! :rolleyes:

As for the snow, no.......Blue has never seen any & if I had my way never would :o I'm 'snowaphobic' you see!! She'll have to get used to the rain I suppose.
Have you got any photos of Henry in the snow?

Hi Banana,

We tried the crate with Henry - strangely it was hubby that went all soft there, so we tried to put him in the laundry room (massive double bedroom sized) which worked for ages until we went away and Henry shared a room with us - well he decided he had been elevated to a higher plane! Seeing as he follows me everywhere, we found that if I went to bed he would just go to sleep, however when hubby comes to bed, Henry tries his damndest to seperate us, he is slowly getting to grips that bedtime is quiet time :rolleyes: We don't have any pictures of a snowy Henry yet (snow has vanished for now) or of him sporting his yellow raincoat - this is a labour saving device because a wet Henry takes a long time to dry! And yes I am a sad enough muppet to be getting him some little shoes to protect his feet from the ice :o Henry has also just graduated from kinderpuppy - you wouldn't guess though, it seems that all things learnt at school stays at school, especially Henry come and Henry stay - unless of course he feels like it! It's great having a puppy isn't it - I love it!

What a gorgeous dog! What breed is he? He looks like a black version of a Samoyed, but I thought they only came in white!

Thank you, Henry is a Chow Chow complete with blue/black tongue. Chow Chows have had loads of bad publicity in the past but it is mostly unfounded - I could talk about him all day so I will go before you all nod off :zzz:

I think the black Chows are much nicer looking than the red ones - maybe because they are not so common. I have heard the stuff about Chows. I also heard similar stuff about Great Pyrenees. Some friends have two of them and they are both big soppy lumps - bossed around by my friends' two Cairn terriers. These stories always get around. I have a friend who used to own a kennel. She also bred German Shepherds and American Cockers. We were discussing Dobermans one day and she said she would trust a Doberman over a GS and she had never met a bad tempered Dobe. Of course, the ones she met were purebred and registered and owned by people who wanted a well socialized dog.

I'm sure there are vicious dogs in all breeds - depends on the breeding and the owners.

I bet your Chow loves the snow eh?

Yeah from what he has seen of snow, he does like it - cant wait for him to jump in drift! Chows by nature are aloof and a bit cat like in their temperament. They also like to be a part of the family - if you leave one in the yard all day he won't want to know you but if you include him in your family, he will be a loyal happy gentle dog. It is said that Chows only give their love once. The scowling face puts a lot of people off, but he is just like a teddy bear. Also being cat like in their temperament - they are not a demanding animal. Henry would rather sit in the back of the car with us going somewhere than being left at home - even if like tonight it's dring 1.5 hours to Calgary, buying a car and driving back 1.5 hours with just a wander around the block. See told you I could send you to sleep talking about Henry - just got another books on Henry's (I mean Chow Chows) so I'm off to read a bit more..............
