Permission to write Red Seal test - AST
Hi folks
I am starting to prepare my portfolio of certificates and references to seek permission to write the red seal test for an automotive service technician and I feel I may have hit a brick wall  I have a total of 17 years of experience in the UK as a AST although only one of the garages I worked with is still operating hence I only have 3 years verifiable experience in the last 10 as I have been operating my own business outwith the trade for the last 5 years. I am still in contact with the service manager from one of the garages who is willing to verify 7 years but this is older than 10 years. I am now under the impression I may be refused permission to write the test or advised to take more training. I also have an NVQ and City and Guilds but otherwise I have no proof I attended college. I have read all sorts of conflicting advice on this and on another note I believe it means I would be unable to go through PNP Skilled Worker Stream as I would need at least one years experience out of the last five. We were keen to go to NS but I believe the job oppertunities may be few and far between so we are now looking at Ontario. We are due to go on reccy trip over the next few months and I would like to write the test while I'm there if possible. Any help would be appreciated. |

Hi My husband went to see the people in the know, at the College in NS, while on a Recci in June. He has over 8 years experience in Truck and Trailer mechanics, including over 6 years back in 1990-1996. They were very helpful and gave him the go ahead for the exam, we are at the moment planning it for the near future. I don't think there was a problem with it being so many years ago, they seemed to go on the interveiw aswell as his experience. I am sure if you have a good chat with them and explain the situation they would be happy with that, and if not arrange an interveiw with them when you visit. We are going to apply by the Community Identifed Stream, this way he does not need the job offer or the criteria that the skilled worker route does:thumbsup: Good luck! |

Hi Irishsamx
Thank you for the encouraging reply, we too will be making an appointment with the people to give us the go ahead for the test when we do our reccy, I'm hoping everything isn't as set in stone as is detailed in their web sites. After more or less deciding Ontario may be a better bet for a job, I got an e-mail yesterday from a dealer in Dartmouth, NS, looking to set up a telephone interview, back to the drawing board  Good Luck to you too  |
