Permanent Resident Cards!!!!!!!!!
Hye,
I need some information regarding Permanent Resident cards as I need to travel in a hurry. I tried ringing up the toll free number and all I could get was a recorded message that said that it would take atleast 16 weeks to get one, while the website says it will take 4 weeks for new landed immigrants. I landed on 1st August, 2004. Does anybody have any experience/ knowledge of how long it is actually going to take? I need to make my travel plans based on this information. Thanks in advance. |

Pretty sure that this is correct, but it might be worth trying to ring the CIC on 1 800 255-4541 to be absolutely certain. Good luck! :) |
Re: Permanent Resident Cards!!!!!!!!!
This is a bit tricky I tell you. Some people gets their PR card after 2 to 3 weeks but it was quite different to me and my family. I landed on the 17th of July and my family on the 20th July. My wife and daughter got their PR card just after 3 weeks but me and my son are still waiting for it. I phone the CIC call center and they said they still have not sent it yet and it might take another 2 weeks.
Hope this helps.

As you're in a hurry to travel maybe the answer could be apply travel and deal with issue on the way back. Been out of the country by road several times without problem. Friend has flown on his British Passport at least 5 times without a PR card. So what are your circumstances someone here might be able to help |
Re: Permanent Resident Cards!!!!!!!!!
Heck I applied for mine in April and I am still waiting. I actually travelled with out it. I have a British Passport and I had to go to immigration where they checked there computer and then stamped my passport and that was it. I guess it really does depend on where you are travelling to though.

Re: Permanent Resident Cards!!!!!!!!!
Our application was inland spousal - hubby landed July 22nd and he received the PR card in the mail on August 17th.
Hope you all receive it very soon!! Cheers Oggy |
Re: Permanent Resident Cards!!!!!!!!!
Inland applicants usually get their beautiful looking cards sent to them 3-4 weeks after the landing ceremony, which is becoming more like the citizenship ceremony now.
A whole bunch of people in a room, your name being called, they give you a goody bag, and you all sing oh canada, and shake hands, and say welcome to canada

Re: Permanent Resident Cards!!!!!!!!!
Am afraid not, because if am not mistaken, those from outside will have already had their interview before coming here to land. Those from inside have to go to the local CIC office to answer a few question, and do the whole landing thing.
Sorry, I can give you mine if you want :D

Re: Permanent Resident Cards!!!!!!!!!
We must have had the laid back version of the landing ceremony. Nine people sitting around a table, filling out the last paperwork and cutting our pictures to fit into the tiny box on the form! The only questions asked were whether hubby had committed a crime and been incarcerated and if he had been refused entry into Canada previously. No singing... no goodie bags! :(
No matter.... he has the pretty wee card and we're flying to Glasgow on October 3rd!! :D Oggy |
Re: Permanent Resident Cards!!!!!!!!!
Oi cheeky, never said it was exciting :D You know what? I have not actually looked inti it since then, all I can see in there are two flags and other things canadian, but have not rummaged through it yet, it's in the storage room somewhere ;)
Must be a regional thing, the giving out of goody bags, and making PRs sing oh canada, this was of course after the mini interview and presentation of landing certificate.

Think I'll just have to unfurl my Ontario flag (all 18 inches-ish of it!) and learn the melody to "O Canada!" on the guitar.
