Passport Renewal

Hello,

I am in the process of renewing my passport and was wondering which is the best way of sending my supporting documents? Canada Post, UPS or Fedex?

Also anyone recently had theirs renewed and would like to share their timeline? Is it quicker than the summer?

Thanks!

People on here usually recommend Canada Post Xpresspost... Should do the job. As for timeline from what I can understand the backlog has decreased fairly nicely, so hopefully shouldn't take too long, but I wouldn't have my hopes up too high.

How recently did you apply/receive your new passport? Only ask because if it was 1 yr + ago it wouldn't have been affected by the UK passport backlog.

Thanks for the replies. My passport has been received so hopefully I get it back soon. Hate being without my passport!

I renewed mine about a year ago. I walked into the passport office myself, handed all the paperwork in. It's all very easy and un-bureaucratic once the paperwork is filled out. Paid $50 more ( as I had an airline ticked which showed a flight within the next week) and had the passport in two days, picked it up in person.

In today's world, I just have concerns sending document like passports in the mail, - just out of safety concerns. Of course if one lives out in the country, a personal trip to the passport office is not always an option.

+1 to this, but I believe you are speaking of Canadian passports, and I think OP is talking about renewing a British passport, which isn't possible anymore. Documents and forms must be mailed to UK.

Yes. Thanks! I was mistaken. Sorry.

I can't remember what I used, international registered mail, I got it back in 16 days, including the week it took to get there. Returned by DHL. There's a whole enormous thread on this subject in the USA section. http://britishexpats.com/forum/usa-5...es-usa-786998/ (which is still relevant, other than the fact that USPS is a bit quicker than Canada Post usually).

sent my husband's renewal on 1st Aug with Canada Post. He didn't sign the box 'adequately', so UK passport office wrote back asking for a new declaration page. This added to the UK backlog, we got it back at the beginning of the week.
