Passport renewal

I know we've talked about this topic before, and I 've searched the topic but can't find the answer I need.
We've been in Canada for 8 months. Our passports need to be renewed in the next few weeks. I've downloaded all the relevant forms and checked out all the information. However, I'm a little bit stumped on the countersignatory requirement. Given that we've only been her for 8 months, and cannot meet the 2 year requirement for a suitable signatory, what the heck do we do!!?
Has anyone had this problem? If so, any advice would be much appreciated. If not, then, are you aware of how I could solve this problem??.

You will have to send photo's to someone in UK and get them signed

I don't think that's true (or even permissible).

You can go to a notary in Canada I think. For a fee he can sign the photos.

Do you need to have photo's signed? I thought if you were renewing a passport you just sent the old passport with the photo's and application form. That's all my wife did last year.

I renewed mine in Canada without having photos signed.

I had my daughter's papers/photo countersigned by a friend over in the UK - but try calling your local consulate. It was a bit unclear on the website about whether or not to include my daughter's birth certificate. So I called the local office and they were really helpful. I'm sure they'll point you in the right direction.

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I remembered requiring a countersignatory for my kids passport renewals in the UK, but for the life of me I can't remember what happened the last time I renewed my own.
I was thinking about submitting the application without signatures as Diefenbaker and BristolUK suggested, but was put off by the fact that they send the applications right back if everything is not in order.....
However, I think I'll bite the bullet and just submit them anyway.
Cheers guys.
