paramedics

Are there any paramedics reading this forum? How difficult is it to get an ACP job in BC? How difficult are the equivalency exams and the other hoops I will have to jump through and is the job as enjoyable over there?

Re: paramedics

Have you done a search on here for paramedics under the canada section to avoid all the paramedics going to Oz?

There are some guys from the UK who have used SR para to get PCP but it is hard to get ACP without extra skills such as sedation/experience with RSI/surgical cric/pacing/cardioversion to name a few and extended pharmcology.

Have a look at alberta college of paramedics website for what they expect PCPs (EMT) and ACP(EMT-P) to be able to do.

If you want PM me for other info as I am going as soon as we sell the house and I have a couple of mates with the same service going as well.

Either way it is possible but remember that in BC they are not an all ALS(ACP)service and there are limited positions for ACPs with most of them being metro vancouver not small town BC and competition is stiff.

Like I said if you want some pointers PM me

Have a good one eh!

ACP jobs are available in B.C., however during the recent labour action all hiring was frozen.

BC Ambulance Service is a gov't run entity and the sole provider of EMS in B.C. Because its seniority based, chances are once you do get a license you'll be placed in an urban area in the Greater Vancouver area. The other ALS communities in the province are: Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Naniamo, Victoria area, Kamloops, Kelowna and Price George. All the other communities are PCP.
Yetti, where are you from? I have a bloke in my ACP (I still call it ALS-Advanced life Support) class who was from Surry England and had a hell of a time with licensing and ended up NOT recognising his licensure. He is a 17 year man with tons of experience too. Maybe like us, the chaps at the licensing board (they may not even be human anymore) couldn't understand him :)
If you're from North America its far easier to challenge the exams and in Canada there was a change last April that made all the NOCP's the same througout the country.

If you want more info PM me
