Paramedic UK > BC
Good afternoon one and all!
I am currently living in the UK with my wife (who is a ED sister) and two kids and work as a advanced paramedic on a helicopter air ambulance. we have relatives living in BC who we visited last year and completely fell in love with Canada so are looking into moving. My question to anyone who would know is would my skills be recognised by BC ambulance service? How would I go about getting a job with them as I have heard and read that it is not a easy thing to do as it’s done on seniority and you have to work part time before full time? If there are any paramedic from the UK that have done this I would love to hear how you did it and are getting on! Thanks in advance Matt |
Re: Paramedic UK > BC
Hi there Matt,
Here's a link to the BC ambulance service FAQ section that might be of use to you (You'll note that it's for Advanced Care Paramedics, which are similar in scope of practice to Paramedics in the UK): http://www.bcas.ca/careers/advanced-...aramedic/faqs/ Also, you could try this one: http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/ema/get-...of-canada.html This one lets you know what you need to do when applying for recognition of training and experience. I am a paramedic, but in PEI. I did my schooling over here so don't have first hand experience of the equivalency process. I do believe that there are a couple of posters who have been through the process, so hopefully they'll be along to offer more assistance! Good luck, hope you find the link useful. Sai |

Re: Paramedic UK > BC
No worries
Try egomasseur for info on BCAS or PM me as I did the UK to Canada thing and know a few who have done it as well. The visa is the hard part. Getting a Canadian ticket is jumping hoops but completely doable. |
