PAL and NTSC Tv's

I'm looking for a multisystem TV that plays both PAL and NTSC formats, i've been on the usual 110220volts.com and world-import.com sites however they seem to be quite expensive for the types they have.
Does anyone own a TV that they bought over here that plays both formats or know of a way around it (converter) that works. I'm looking to play both PAL games through my Playstation 2 and also british dvds (my dvd player is multiregional but still outputs in PAL!)
Apologies if this has been covered before.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I had the same issue, however the DVD player I purchased in Canada has a pal to NTSC decoder built in and is multi region. It plays Region 1 and 2 no problem at all. My brother in law who emigrated shortly after me brought his UK Playstation 2 and a portable TV with him so he could continue using it. He purchased an 110 to 220volt 500w upconvertor and uses it without any problems.

I hope this helps.

I bought a 42" Hitachi plasma TV over a year ago that does NTSC, PAL and HD. It will work with 110-240 volts.

I was careful to check it would be ok for Canada as I knew we would be moving within the lifetime of the TV.

It is my suspicion that most LCD or plasma TV will be compatible but make sure you check before parting with any cash!

The search function is a wonderful thing.....

Many TV's will play both PAL and NTSC as will DVD players with a D to A convertor built in. Many of the el cheapo DVD players play multiregion, many can be 'hacked' very easily. See above for some hints and tips.

Yes - we have two of each multisystem TVs/VCRs, but they're not for sale - sorry (I need 'em for my European videos, like 'Watch with Mother' and 'Rosie and Jim' etc) :D

I would imagine that most HDTVs should work with PAL as well as NTSC. NTSC sets have too few pixels for PAL (525 lines vs 625, with about 480 vs 576 actually used for picture), whereas HDTV sets will always have to scale up to the HDTV resolution to play the video.

True but not always so! I have a Toshiba 28" SDTV which plays PAL and NTSC as well as the 51" Hitachi HD set.

A good source of all TV & Home electronics info is digitalhome canada:

Ditto our we bought our LG plasma to take to Canada. Specification as above.

Most Plasma/LCD should be of international spec but check first before you buy especially format comatibilty and 110ac/60 hertz

One thing I would check are inputs. IIRC Euro TV's have 'SCART' connectors whereas North American TV's have DVI or HDMI (Digital) connections plus usually S-video and component. If you are watching HD from a cable box/satellite you will ideally want to use a digital connection. (or failing that component video.)
