Is this were you hire such things as canoes and such equipment?

A Walmart purchase, I assume. If so I can categorically state that that's where to get same here. There are different shapes in more upscale stores.

You'd probably be better going to canadian tire, but a canoe is a specialised item, its not something you usually buy from a department store.

You can, believe it or not, get a canoe from Walmart via on-line. Not something I would recommend without seeing it first. There are many outfitters in the country selling camping/boating equipment but Canadian Tire is a good place to start unless one wants upscale equipment.

Unless your white water rafting you dont really need a high end canoe, good paddles are more important because thats what you'll be using to right yourself if you capsize, the worst thing that can happen is the blades snap meaning you cant push yourself back up.

In summer you wont need it but as it gets cold a wet suit would probably be a good investment.

An outfitter is a company or individual who provides equipment and guidance for the pursuit of certain activities. The term is most closely associated with outdoor activities such as rafting, hunting and fishing, and trail riding using pack stations.

In Alberta, guides and outfitters are monitored by and members of APOS (Alberta Professional Outfitters Society). APOS members adhere to strict guidelines in regards to their outfitting operations, thus APOS is the governing body of the outfitting industry in Alberta.

In the United States outfitters may be required to hold a state license to operate. Many outfitters provide equipment and services on lands administered by the National Forest Service and other federal agencies; these outfitters may be required by those agencies to obtain special use permits.

I've never been into this store, but it says online that they are in BC and Alberta and I have been told I can rent equipment. The link below may give you an idea of what they provide, if that's what your looking for:

It isn't a very good idea to go into white water in a canoe. You would find it very difficult, if not impossible, to get back upright if you capsize . Don't confuse canoes with kayaks. You would use a kayak in white water. They are totally different craft. Also white water rafting is another sport. Take a look at this picture and others in my gallery. Don't try that in a canoe. It's Lava Falls, a class 10 rapid that drops 27 feet in two parts. The grand daddy of them all. By the way, that's me in the back on the right in the light coloured hat. They carry 15 passengers on this baby, a 35 foot modified S rig, and a crew of three on a three hundred mile trip through The Grand Canyon from Lees Ferry to South Cove on Lake Mead. For decent outdoor stuff take a look at Mountain Equipment Co-op. They have stores in most major cities and you can buy on line. I get all my gear there. Good stuff at decent prices. Not cheap but good quality.

The village we live in has 2 marinas where you can hire boats/canoes etc. Other villages/towns have similar places.
