As it would appear that many Brits take to the Outdoor life on arrival in Canada

I’d like to put forward my opinions on getting into the outdoors’

And my first point is about buying gear…....before you come over... :D

Canada has many many great shops dedicated to this area.. but and here is the big but.. Camping and climbing in North America is a fair weather sport.
And the majority of the gear takes this in to consideration…

If you want summer gear, buy it here in Canada.. its the best!!

If you want winter gear, buy it here in Canada again its unbeatable for value..

However if you want to get out on the May24… you’ll need to use that great British advantage.. outdoor sports in the UK all deal with rain…

If I was coming into Canada.. and plan to go camping in Spring and Fall(autumn) then I’d buy my tent in the UK ( I learnt the hard way.. I now own UK ‘Vango’ tent its really water proof, I personally tested it in a full on Scottish mountain down pour before we brought it back)..

Another item to consider is boots…there is nothing wrong with the boots in Canada
But as Hiking is much more popular in the UK the selection is bigger and the cost for a good pair is about the same.. for something you’ll need all day comfort is a big factor…and its easier to find in a larger selection.

Personally I also prefer to buy my Gore-Tex jackets in the UK mainly because the good ones over here are very expensive.. again down to demand… they’re just easier to find in the UK (good ones) but then again its not impossible to find good stuff in Canada..

Things may be slightly better in Vancouver.. due to the rain

And when it comes down to a comfortable night in the woods.. you get what you pay for..

And that goes for the campsites too…. I’d start by going to your local provincial parc’s you just can’t beat them for value for money..

You tried any of the KOA campsites?
The website has good list of them, but while I'm on it, the one in Montreal West, ain't in Montreal, it's infact nowhere near anything, except right between a motorway and train junction about 40 mins drive to the first train/tube link, and just as close to Toronto...and was nout like the description at the time we went :)
