Opinions on CanadaLive! Exhibitions

Hi, has anyone experience of going to these big exhibitions with country-specific info on emigrating?

There is one called Canada Live! taking place in London 15/16 October and wondered if it is worth checking out, particularly in terms of job contacts. My husband still needs to find work in Hamilton.

Thanks.

There will almost certainly be employers there looking to hire, there always is. If it's not that expensive, why not try it. You will only lose the cost of your entry fee.

Possibly, but the last ones I worked at had a handful of stands for Canada (they claim it's a stand alone event, but they have 'Down Under Live' there too, usually in the same room!), all except one were immi consultants.

OP, I'd say if you can get there easily and cheaply, and hopefully free tickets (usually lots given away), then go for it. But if it's going to cost you a large train fare and hotel room don't bother.

Most on the forums think they're rubbish, and ask for money back after spending half an hour there and then going home.

But you can read up on previous threads, lots of first hand reports on the forum if you do a search.

HTH.

You'd be surprised...

I've been very fortunate to have received extensive & concrete info on job leads, as well as offers of help to get my CV seen by the relevant folks, via participation on this forum.

I've been to one of the Canada Live! events about 3 years ago in Scotland. I was a bit disappointed since there was only one stand there that was designated to Canada specifically - the title of the event was a bit misleading (although it was grouped with Down Under). The rest were for Australia and New Zealand. Some of the information in other stands are bit more on immigration in general. The one representative company for Canada was an immigration consultant group, but there were no companies offering jobs for Canada there back then. Not sure if they've got any more Canada stands/representatives now though.

Re: Opinions on CanadaLive! Exhibitions

I tried one of the Australian expo's when I was considering the move myself, before an opportunity came up with my company.

My own experience is that it is a mixed, they did have some companies looking to hire and depending on your skillset it may work for you. It seemed more of a marketing event than a hiring event.

If you are not going to be too much out of pocket, what harm can it do. You may find an employer that wants to hire you.

One thing I do remember is how many people turned up to this event, all feeling quite desperate as looking for options on how to leave the UK.

Check out the participants, but those things are pretty much aimed at immigration rather than jobs.

What kind of work is he looking for in Hamilton? Are you fixed on it being Hamilton, or could it be in the surrounding areas?

I'm in the hammer...

:))

Thanks everyone for your responses. Helpful as always. We would need to make a trip down from Scotland so it would be quite an expense for us. I think we will stick to this forum for advice etc.

Things are moving fast so my questions may increase significantly over the coming weeks ;-)

Cheers,
Cherie

Neither can the CanadaLive expo. I've been to a few over the years, it's always the same, a complete waste of time for Canada. 99% Aus and NZ.

In every single one I've been to there has never been a single employer for Canada. They have removal companies, Brazolot group if you fancy some pressure sales, usually a company which ships pets (aimed at Aus/NZ but also do Canada) and a general jobs area which has one or two computers, some boards and a queue of about 200 people in... all the jobs are for Aus or NZ. Each year the bias changes from Aus or NZ.

They know it's bad because they refunded my ticket price when I complained.

People should just read the forum, listen to Christmas advice, read CIC and figure it out their selves tbh.
