Working for a UK company whilst living in Canada
Hi guys and gals
Hope someone might know the answer to this?? We are just waiting for the 'please send us your passports' letter and then we will be PR, but when we are PR, is there anything stopping me living here in Newfoundland Canada and for my old UK company (not working for a Canadian company for a while)? I will obviously be paying UK taxes, are there any implecations associated with this, do I need to pay the Canadian equivalent of NI etc...? I hope this is not a stupid question, but I can't think why this might be a problem!! Looking forward to hearing comments. Thanks in advance. Chris. |
Re: once I am a PR......
No implications you will just need to file your taxes same as everyone else and include your world wide income. I guess you will be working from home? If working in UK you must meet your residency requirements 2/5 years to maintain PR status. The taxes paid to UK will write of your taxes in Canada to a certain degree depending on earnings as the UK and Canada have a tax treaty. No NI for Canada.

My plan if I can't fix the work situation is to work remotely in Canada exclusively for a UK company. |
Re: once I am a PR......
you dont pay EI as your not entitled to it as your working for a UK company. Again as I'm paying NI so I don't bother with pension payments to Canada. As i will get the UK pension. I dont even think you can pay into a Canadian pension as you are not working in Canada so not entitled to one. Not 100% sure though be nice if anyone else can contribute to this thread.
